Can anyone tell me if my Euro 79 308GTB should have some straps somewhere in the rear luggage area to hold my recently aquired jacking and tool kit in place? The parts list shows a strap but I have no evidence of there ever being one in my car, if anyone can post a detailed picture/s I would be grateful.
    Regards
    Phil

Only the jack bag goes in the LH trunk well, it's held vertically against the front side of the recess by a rubber strap fixed on the fender end and a hook/tab on the inner side, about half way up the tub.

Most early owner's manuals show the tool rool stashed in the upside down spare wheel........it'll improve front/rear balance there, you see........

I wonder if the pictures show the straps attached to and around the bag, and it only looks to be straps attached in the trunk area? Congrats btw!

One always learns : it looks like Tav 107 does not show this but Tav 157 Aus / RHD does

So did I miss it in other parts books that some LHD have it too ?

In a roundabout way I guess I'm asking how common this strap was ?

Possible the strap hits a fixed clip at both ends, I'd have to look to be sure.......

The strap to hold the jack/toolkit was only for LHD U.S.A market cars. RHD cars,UK/Australia etc never had it. This from the carb cars to 328's.

I believe the strap was a USA regulation thing??? All RHD Oz delivered/spec. cars are lacking it!

    Hope this helps,
    Cheers
    Pete

The strap has a pin on one end and a clip that fits into a slot welded onto the body. The parts are shown in the 1978 USA parts book.
It's loose in the picture, but when the other tool kit is there, everything is tight.

+1 which explains why your Euro doesn't have the strap

Really funny... how all this stuff is different.

308 GTB owners handbook 116/75, page 111 shows BOTH Jack Kit and Tool roll inside the front boot, laying in the depression of the spare wheel.

308 GTB Owners handbook, 12/76 (from the 77 GTB US) page 122 shows both jack kit and tool roll in the rear trunk, left side, laying horizontally on the trunk floor.

My '77 B has the rubber strap a bit more to the left in the trunk depression, looking like the Jack Kit would stand vertically (as Big Tex stated)...

NET IS, PUT THE DAMNED TOOLS/JACK KIT IN A SAFE PLACE (since they are worth so much money), and call a flatbed tow.

I actually use that rubber strap/clip combo for the biggest fire extinguisher I can fit in there, and let the jack bag kick around! LOL!

I think the proper tool kit position, for both of them, is in the safe in my house :):). These things have a tendency to wander off.

There IS that, plus I have to jam the latch release lever with an Altoids box....

No Altoids box, the car burns to the ground......:D :D :D

There WAS the one time I put an oil fire out with Guiness, made for a malty, nutty flavored steam.....

You both need fire suits stowed in the cockpit.

Bubba, you need to fabricate an Altoids box holder for your cockpit placarded FOR EMERGENCY USE
