I was just cruising 50 mph 5th gear, next thing you know - loud ticking coming from engine. Pull over asap and turn it off. Turn it back on and it struggles to even idle. Car has 5k miles and is an '07. I know it's some light info but any idea what it can be? Car still goes in gear but there is no way I am driving it with this sound

    Sorry to hear mate. :):)

I was going to say you blew an exhaust gasket, BUT.................if you start the engine and it barely runs has me thinking that its not an easy fix like an exhaust gasket.:eek:

Hopefully its nothing major. If the engine barely idles, then it may have a vacuum leak/a hose has come off somewhere. Perhaps that is your ticking noise and rough idle? :):)

Let us know how you go with it mate. :):)

If the engine is hurt and not under warranty, Might I suggest giving Kevin at Underground Racing a call. He has an excellent engine shop at his disposal who is quite familiar with exotic engines that deal with insane power levels. Jonah's TT F430 made 1100 hp and has almost become his daily driver and fast favorite from his stable of TT Lamborghini's.

sorry to be so brief at the moment but i am still slowly finding out more info myself. supposedly, something was sucked into the cylinder and that is how the damage was caused. i cant remember exactly, but the service advisor said something that it usually happens because of the stock exhaust and the internals. the inside of the stock exhaust on the 430s (according to the service advisor) are known to get damaged and cause problems to the engine.

surprisingly, he said the exhaust was still in great condition.

as i said - sorry to be so brief. i will definitely post more and complete info once i receive it. looks like i will be 430-less for the next two weeks.

+1. You'll have a new engine soon, and back on the road again. Try and take some pics of the crate engine when it arrives.

only 5K on the clock and if he thinks the stock exhaust somehow (??) caused the engine destruction, I am surprised he is not replacing the exhaust?

p.s. be glad you did not mod the car or put on a TUBI... your car might be beyond economical repair w/o warranty.

this is like lotto! I guess it is good luck/ bad luck kinda story

p.s.s; I wonder what happens to his old blown engine... back to the factory and someone gets a reaman engine in their F430 down the road??? sell it on ebay to a racer/tuner?

    WARNING!
If this was infact reversion from the cracked manifold you better make DAMN sure the manfold is replaced on BOTH banks unless you want to go through this again.
Exhaust manifolds on the 360 and 430 are notorious for this. There are many threads on the subject.

    ok fine...now what!!???

    I am getting a 2004 360 soon.

It has Hyperflow cats (and I have the original Ferrari cats) and a Challenge exhaust and 14,000 miles.

Should I just replace/remove the precats?

So much for the bullet proof 360.

It depends on your tolerence for risk. Not all the manifolds will fail. BUT, no one can predict when a failure will occur and damage the engine at a cost in the tens of thousands. It can happen with no warning, no CEL, no tell tale "ticking sound", just a ruined engine.

The way I see it, replacing the manifolds, with FabSpeed headers for example, is an insurance policy against reversion damage. Plus, you get an little increase in perfomance.

I've had Fabspeed on 3 of my last Porsche's and like the quality of their work. If you decide to go with Fabspeed, I would be concerned with shielding some of the key parts in the engine as there's no insulation around their headers. I believe they do offer heat shields with their headers.

he mentioned that the car is stock and was hinting that good thing it was. otherwise you're right - had there been a tubi or any other aftermarket exhaust on the car, it would easily be blamed on that i bet.

rcuming, thanks for the input. i will make sure to mention the manifold situation to the service advisor.

i would love to put aftermarket parts on this car - but i can't risk anything happening. our 997tt and GTR are the mod bugs :)

Not if the stock manifold was the problem, because then the damage wouldn't have happened:)

Yes, FabSpeed headers come with heat shields.

Simlar thing happened to my 05 430. Kept getting the CEL. Went back to the dealer several times. Finally figured out the engine was fried from flow reversal from a cracked header good thing I bought an extend warranty. FNA replaced the engine
