HELP -- Hi Res F40 Photo Needed

It is possible that the photographer who owns the copyright never released a hi-res version so that no one can make any illegal reproductions. That's what I do...

thank you for editing the picture, but the resolution is not high enough to make it into a poster

 

wouldn't it be best to contact the photographer who owns the copyright and
ask to purchase a legal, full-resolution photo?

It's also entirely possible there IS no higher res version as well. The F40 is an
old car - that's an old photo.

what steps could we take into getting in contact with the photographer? and how would we find him/her?

 

Well, I don't know... were it me, I'd start with the link first posted - send them
an email - might have to find them at Whois or similar service to get an email.... it'll
take some sleuthing.

My guess? It's a 35mm analog film shot from that era - then scanned from a print. The image
has that look (was a professional photographer for many years).

And unless it was a PROFESSIONAL photographer, the odds of that actual negative
being anywhere "findable" are probably very low. Just think: you probably have
PRINTS of some neat family event from many years ago... where is the NEGATIVE?
The NEGATIVE contains a wealth of analog info than can be scanned and re-scanned
as technology changes... but people seldom keep them for posterity - only the prints.

Scanners of the 90s were pretty low res - which is what the original image looks
to me. Nowhere near enough data to make a poster... without the negative.

BUT ... were you to find the photog and get that NEGATIVE, it could easily be
scanned with modern technology to sufficient resolution.

I really wish you luck... it's a long shot, but that is ONE AMAZING PHOTO that I hope
you can track down.

i highly doubt the blogger on link from the image knows the photographer. I am surprised Ferrari does not offer any poster prints, since I believe it looks like an official photo.

i was actually hoping with today's technology that some program could increase the quality of the image, or smooth out the pixel to make a poster.

tracking down the negatives is like finding a needle in a haystack on a snowy day.

Yeah - I never wanted to imply it would be EASY to track the original down.

Unfortunately, software can't add back in what isn't there.

Perhaps you could do some stylized version - like light posterization, or 'water color'
or 'pastel' effects - those sorts of digital processes DO add new detail that would give at
least the illusion of greater detail.

It's too bad Ferrari didn't make that image into a poster "back in the day" and
kept the original artwork.

and the journey continues.., water color looks great, but i can't mess with the natural beauty of that photo, it's a classic.

this is a f40 meet in japan, they are nice photos but not as great as the OP's photo

 

Looks like most of these F40's have been modified in some way. Sad to see that.
