I've bought a new 348 glove box lid gas strut off Ricambi which hasn't arrived as yet but in the interim, I was wondering how the old strut comes out of the glovebox.

it's hard to get at and hard to see, but it looks like the strut is held on by a pin or similar at the top and bottom of the strut. Probably not many of you have replaced this strut as it's only pedantic guys like me who would think of doing so (my strut has lost its gas).

Any assistance re the above would be greatly appreciated.

Funny, I was thinking of replacing that same part. Let me know if you find out how to replace it.

The swap out is as easy as it gets. Just a sliding pin/connector. I used a pair of needle-nose pliers and had it done in less than 4 minutes. Good luck!

This was one of the first items I replaced when I got my 348 several years ago, the new F part then failed within months of fitting it, needless to say I didn't bother fitting a third!

Be interested to hear if your replacement performs any better

Congrats also if your strut works. My new aftermarket $50 strut (talk about non-ferrari robbery) lasted a whole 3 days of proper operation....
But yeah, removal and reinstall is a piece of cake.

Oh <<insert expletive of choice>> my new little strut has been working nicely for 5 weeks, it's probably getting ready to die. That'll be annoying, but at least I know to expect it now.

Amen. Although, I didn't get mine from Ricambi (should have). Haven't replaced the replacement. As noted below, removal/installation is easy. It's the longevity that's an issue. Keep us posted as to how long yours lasts . . . get back us periodically. I'm subscribing to this thread. Good luck.

Be sure to install it with the gas cylinder on top. This might make it last a few weeks longer... :p

Thanks guys - I will try and fit the new replacement strut at the weekend.

Not sure why they fail so quickly.

I will keep you all posted as to its longevity - here's hoping.

    Thanx.

So I just slide the pin one way by inserting the end of the long nosed pliers. There's not much space to work in the glovebox.

It's only big enough to store a pair of gloves, isn't it !!!

It's not Daniel's fault if they fail the test.

Try blaming Ferrari as they are a genuine part.

Agreed. Although, the retailer should warranty or not sell the product, IMHO.

Stentboy's were purchased in March 2009. Really, if somebody contacted me in a reasonable amount of time, I'd be happy to refund.

Let vegas1 install his, and we'll see how it goes. If it fails quickly, I'll pull them from the catalog.

For sure, Daniel only sells the BEST Ferrari products. :D:D

I assume this is probably the first he had heard of "his" struts failing. :):)

    Good man. :):)

I will endorse all the Ferrari 348 parts I've purchased from Daniel at Ricambi over the past five years as factory original quality parts (and I am very fussy as I expect concours standards) and Daniel has always been courteous, efficient and timely with his advice and shipping.

And I don't live in the USA, so I have no affiliation with Ricambi.
