Good thing they made a few so more folks can have a try from time to time. Imagine if built in McLaren F1 #'s ...

I love the almost lackidasical attitute in the factory of the employees building the cars. You see one guy with his foot up on the tire having a conversation with a builder, another fellow looks like he just paints Ferrari's as a day gig while his evening gig is breakin thumbs, and another fellow looks like he has had his hand at building every Ferrari since 1947. Must be an amazing place to work with a remarkable sense of accomplishment built right in.

Halfway around the world I have seen vids of the Kawasaki motorcycle factory and those builders look like they are building a nuclear science experiment with white coats, helmets with face covers, and a drastic and painful painted expression on their faces. Maybe it's just concentration.....

    Thanks for posting Jim.

74049 = The Ultimate F40! I wonder how many of these F40 prototype been produced? Being less weight than the standard F40 and more power, how fast is this compared to a regular F50?
Where is this 74049 now? And who owns it? Very lucky owner I must say.
On the Japanese video...I thought it was Mr.Burt Reynolds driving it. Is he the owner?
Very beautiful F40 indeed. I will never see one in my lifetime in person that's for sure!

8 prototypes, I'm not sure their performance was ever recorded and released to the public, and that was a factory test driver.

You will find that when you ask the whereabouts and the name of the owner of a particular car, often times that information cannot be disclosed on a public forum.

I think there are several F40s in Hawaii..

I really like the way these Club 40 members roll. They are driving the car the way it should be! :)

Thanks for the great vid. The handbuilt manufacturing process was cool but the Miami Vice-style music was little distracting. The driving sequences and engine sound were spectacular. I'm digging the photos that everybody's posting too. Very grateful, I am

When I see non-modern cars, i always imagine them with modern tech. No Electronics, but with modern tires, brakes, suspension, and engine up to date. If the prototype had 600hp, and under 1tone weight i imagine a f40 with all tech. ferrari can put in the car. We could easy see a 800kg and...800hp car?

Now that 458 is supercar-fast. I really wish that the next hypecar from ferrari to be as f40 was. Just a raw machine. They always blame it on emissions for the extra weight. Even compact sports cars have +1300kg .

The reasons behind that is that is hard to get a relative comfortable ride with less weight. Because at 1.5 tone the suspension works better with the weight of the car to flow over bumps. But at 1tone its hard to tune the suspension for both ride and dinamics , so your car will ride hard.

This fact is sustain by the customers who search for DD supercars, easy to live with, and also by te technology who is far from '80s so the temptation to implement that on "stay in seat and touch the button for thrils" supercars.

A supercar needs to be a tool that clicks on all your senses.

F40 was then all ferrari can give. Now builders seem like not going full throttle with their capabilities. Or maybe they are but not focusing on the real thrills, and we have now Gadget-supercas

Just the way i see it.
