Guys, After reading the post from Steven about moving to Singapore from the States and asking about Cars and Coffee I decided to grab a look at what its all about. Have you all seen the events held in the US titled "Cars and Coffee"? Usually involves a gathering from around the region of all car enthusiasts and covers every walk of interesting car. Fantastic variety of cars and makes for a really interesting gathering. Almost like attending a car show where one can learn so much about all the other performance cars on the street (and not just restricted to expensive cars but all car enthusiasts)... Its got something of interest for all car enthusiasts whether on a big, medium or small budget. To invite the Classic Car Club of Singapore, ECC, Audi and Volkswagen forum, Lotus, Mini, WRX, Evo, Lambo, Aston, Honda Civic Type R, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche etc etc. Would be great to cross borders with these other owners and would probably open our eyes to what other car enthusiasts get up to regardless of the budget that they spend on their cars. The thought actually holds credence after reading about a run in between a Mitsubishi Evo and a couple of the Civic guys (of which I know a few of both). It was a situation of potential road bullying that really shouldn't happen between car enthusiasts. If everyone were to acknowledge a car enthusiast as that, a car enthusiast, the likelihood of such incidences would probably be reduced as we all begin to acknowledge one another as individuals with a common interest rather than just nameless faceless that drive performance cars and try to engage i mindless road racing. Check out this website as an example, or do a search on Cars and Coffee on the net and facebook.... Cars and Coffee™ Irvine Thoughts? I for one would love to attend such an event at Big Splash or other common ground where there are eateries and ample parking to walk around and look at all the cars that turn up. Would be a great networking and social event as well. And all the hot babes always hang around or drive BMWs from what I am told.... so a chance to meet them. Hahaha.
Maybe I was being a little too idealistic... Grab a read on the topic as posted in the Evo forum, makes for interesting reading though and quite possibly true. http://www.sgevoclub.com/general-chit-chat/cars-coffee-t23901.html
They have raised good points. The petrolhead culture here is just too dilute, possibly made worse by the classic car scheme. There will be a couple of guys who will attend because of their genuine love for these machines, but there will also be just a few tw@ts who'd make use of it to boast about the size of their balls and leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
Aren't the monthly bmw, merc and vasg meetups quite similar to cars and coffee? All they need is a few more car forums to have the same monthly meet up destination and it'll about the same thing wouldn't it?
Harold, you are just a true blue car freak! It would indeed be nice to have a cross culture common ground for all car nuts regardless of the $$ of their rides but bonded by the common love of cars. BTW - When are you sending in your ECC membership forms?
Harold I'm SOOO impress to read your write up about the definition of an "enthusiast". I love my cars whether it's my VW Single Cab Truck that does 0-100km/hr in NEVER or my Cayenne Twin Turbo brother that does it in 5 seconds. I'm just as excited and have a smile on my face! Since Singaporeans like to eat we can call it "Cars And Dimsum". I love to see an Enzo at Cars And Coffee or an old Mini Cooper S.
In the cycling community, they all meet up every sat and Sunday at the long house on Thomson rd. They ride together and come from all walks of life.
In a way yes MP, but this chat is somehow your love for Ferrari or the ownership of one that bring this brudderhood together.
U only log in when you buy a new car and want to announce it...yes we all still alive and gay as ever.
personally i think that in the singapore context it is camaraderie & the love for cars in general that brings us here together ...
Geez Phil I was wondering where you'd disappeared to! That might be how it started but I think it's more about the love of cars in general these days .. afterall there aren't many Ferrari owners amongst the brudders here any more.
