Bersa Guns

Bersa is OK for the price, but definitely not the best out there. What are you going to be using it for? Concealed carry? Also keep in mind the .380 round is not the most powerful round out there and it is a little bit more expensive as well.

Sweet.......hard to jam due to the design and a 15 round magazine. Load it up with hollow points, and you're good to go.

 

Depends on your price range and its intended usage. If you are looking for a reliable self defense gun for a relatively low price buy a glock. Keep in mind that the safety on a glock is on the trigger. If there is a round in the chamber and you pull the trigger it will fire, period. expect to pay between $400-500 USD

Going up a notch the Sig P220 is a great gun. Reliable, easy to clean, very accurate and not to large. On the down side it's in .45 and as such it is not a gun for an amateur. It will take quite a bit of practice to become proficient. An entry level P220 is around $400 USD

Finally the top of the line. My personal favorite and what I carry, the HK USP Tactical in .45. With well over 1,000 rounds its never jammed. It's extremely accurate, easy to break down and clean, less recoil than other .45's, great feel, perfect trigger pull, not too heavy, pre-threaded for a suppressor. Virtually everything about this gun is perfect. If you find it a bit large go for the smaller version the USP CT. For a new one expect to pay $1,100 USD

 

From a law enforcement aspect aswell as from someone who has sold guns the Bersa .380 is a nice CCW. The aspect you must think about, and you mentioned it in your first reply is feel, and then decide what your price range is. Remember its mostly about shot placement and secondly about the number of rounds you have. Range time will be your best best friend.

From the above - the line; "My particular Bersa usually runs about 30 to 50 ft/sec slower than my Walther PP or FEG PMK 380 handgun" stood out, as I was quite familiar with the FEG PMK 380, which is quite comparable to the PP [Not PPK]. After all, it was through repeated reviews and extensive comparisons to PP that I acquired it to begin with. But, I found the FEG PMK had an annoying tendency to remind my hand it had a slide, and it has gone on to other hands to which the fit was best suited.

- In a nutshell: As the tang & slide are well-positioned on the Bersa Thunder, if the grip suits you, you're all set.

 

Bersa are "meh" at best. Taurus have a lifetime warranty.

i chose a small Glock 26, but mine is very, very, quiet.

My "on duty" pistols are all Tuarus's, a PT24/7 Pro .40cal and a 111 .9mm.

I have a Glock 29 10mm on the way for another duty weapon.

 

Cheap Argentinian guns I think. For a few more dollars you can get a Springfield XD9.

And it's Bersa. And I wouldn't buy one. You will be disappointed in their fit and finish, and performance for that matter. Ive put a couple hundred rounds through a couple of different Bersa's and they all had failures to eject too often. I wouldn't feel confident with one.

 

Nothing alittle gunsmithing would not cure on the ejection port and different manufactures loads perform differently and with each gun. Aswell lets not forget that the 'fit and finish' is less important to others than some but your insight is a great tool for reference. I'm currently saving up for my Kimber and I love them, top of my CHL and police academy class, but others have issues with them so it's a fickle area.

Simply put range time and alittle studying will set one on the right path. I am no gun nut by far but I try to offer alittle 'newbie' style insight to those looking for a handgun. A helping hand from someone with experience goes along way.

 

I may be coming at this thread from the wrong angle anyways. The OP may just want a fun cheap gun to maybe get some trigger time and get use to how they work. And in that case the Bersa would fit the bill nicely. I was thinking she was wanting it for concealed carry. In that case a lot more gun can be had for not much more $$. Taurus has been really making a name for itself lately and a nice one can be had for about a 100 bucks more than the Bersa, and would require no work to get it to function flawlessly.

What model Kimber are you going to get? They are a fantastic pistol. I am surprised you have heard people having issues with them. But then again in the world of gun nuts, its basically a pissing match between people that prefer one manufacturer over another. No one will ever agree on one manufacturer being the best.

Does the silencer make the front end very heavy on the Glock 26?

 

My .40cal 24/7 Pro shoots low and to the left by about 3-4 inches yet my Millennium Pro 111BP-12 is very accurate. The 24/7 will soon be at the gunsmiths for the accuracy issue and a thorough going through.

I used a Pro Carry I in the academy yet cannot decide between the Custom II Stainless,Pro Carry II or the Ultra Carry II. I should be recieveing my Glock 29 10mm anyday now and cannot wait to shoot it. One of my good friends has a Glock 30 and I was surprised at how well the gun shot as far as accuracy and distance. I got my CHL back in '07 with a Glock 22.

 

not "very heavy" but you do notice it. practice trains you to deal with it. Plus, it is utterly silent with subsonic 9mm ammo, i mean, you hear the firing pin, and the slide, and nothing else.

suppressor is a YHM Phantom with 1 tablespoon of Teflon wire pulling gel for cooling and sound.

I've got a bersa .380 that the gf keeps with her. I bought it when I thought I wanted a ppk as a carry gun, a gun dealer I trust told me to get it instead. It was cheap but has been more reliable than some of my higher dollar guns. Has always fed anything I put in it and is pretty damn accurate, easy to take down and clean and oil.

 

duh. too many cans its a YHM COBRA on the 9mm. i just got a Phantom for my .30 cals, so its fresh on my mind. sorry for the typo. i still would buy a Taurus or a used Glock over a Bersa. I dont like Beretta either.

 

the Beretta 92 Military weapon has a problem with cracked slides. Yet the Taurus m92, based on the Beretta design, does not have this problem. Beretta could are less if you gun breaks a year or two later. maybe the Beretta .380 or .32 is ok? Dont know, too small for a defense gun, and i am not a fan of 9mm either, i just own a few because mine are completely silent.

Taurus has a no questions lifetime warranty. I have a very old, and suppressed Taurus M92 in 9mm that never, ever fails, and its very accurate. Some of the old Beretta guns from the 80's and 90's are "ok" but for self defense, i WOULD NOT buy one.

The Charter Arms is a very fine piece, and sought after by collectors now. Revolvers are best if left loaded for long periods ( 3-5 years) over spring fed magazines.

Thin Blue line in Garden City has a nice selection of Glocks. Tell Tony i said hi.
