Indian Members..need to track down a cellphone!!!

Without filing a FIR with the Indian Police, no action can be initiated. Even to track down name and address you need FIR. Unfortunately a long and tedious process .

You should contact an Indian attorney first. He will tell you how feasible it would be to pursue this.

I very much doubt you can track this individual down through a cell phone number. It was probably taken out under fraudulent means, and would most likely be linked to a fake/invalid address. It doesn't take much to get a SIM card in India. What you could possibly gain is a current location of the SIM card if it is still in use. If the card has not changed hands, yes, it could help nab the suspect. But I think it would take a lot to triangulate a cell phone signal tied to the IMEI, even if it is active and still with the same person.

If the money was wired into a bank account, that might be the better avenue to pursue. If the individual's travel records can be obtained, his passport particulars might shed some light, or might not. Anything he mentioned in passing, or perhaps getting together with another victim and piecing together parts of any story that he might have let slip, would be better ways of getting to the bottom of this.

 

screw the attorney ... talk to the cops ... for a percentage, they will do the needful ...

a LOW level contact in the fone company is the way to do it ... but u WILL need a local boy to weasel his way in ... but definitely doable ...

the other way is to get the local cops to chase his candy ass ... for a fee. also doable.

the least preferred option is to talk to the "locals" ...
