Test mule for Enzo engines. Saw a red one with the same weird looks a couple of years ago in Spa Francorchamps. Anyone know how many of these cars exist? The red one was sold by the Ferrari factory at an auction.

I wonder if the car for sale at Modena Motorsport is the same one you see on my pictures. Does anybody have more information on this?

The ads of Modena Motorsport in German magazines say something to the effect of "The only Enzo prototype that ever left the factory gates" (emphasize by me), the interpretation could be that there are more than one, but only the Modena Motorsport car is in private hands.

Technically they might be right, but I am sure there were/are more proto's and mules. I have seen pictures of a prototype that showed more resemblance to the final shape and form of the Enzo. Maybe Ferrari scrapped the other cars and only sold one...

Awesome thread. I'm fascinated by Prototypes and have owned a number of them in my life.

    Bravo and thanks for sharing!

I'm no expert but it looks like a regular euro-spec F50 to me. It's just missing the black trim that goes along the side of the body. It also appears to have different wheel nuts.

Edit: the roof line does look a little weird but maybe it's just not latched down all the way.

    I agree with you.

First of all the front spoiler looks too rounded, there is no lip sticking out at the bottom. The rear spoiler is too rounded compared to the production models that have a much flatter spoiler. It's also strange that the Pininfarina badge is placed above the side air intake because production models have a different badge placed below the intake. The mirror stalks look too upright as well.

I think this is not an Enzo proto though. My guess would be a late F50 proto or even a pre production F50.
Or, since you saw it in 2000... Maybe an old F50 proto used as a test bed for some new technical components not strictly related to the 'new' supercar.

Doesn't look oem production to me, but I could be wrong. There's just something about it though that really stands out and doesn't look right. I would say its some type of test vehicle or pre/post production.

Great thread. I expressed my liking to this mule when it was sold a couple of years ago at auction (RM?) I believe it sold for a modest pice. Especially considering it's a part of Ferrari Enzo history...oh and an Enzo motor has to be a couple of grand to begin with :)

Yeah, just ask Bill S ;)

We need more pics of this proto. I really really love the stretched 348 body with a V12 to top it off. There's something gorgeous about this car. Must have more!! ;)

I think the panels are unusual. It looks like it has a separate targa panel whereas on a standard car the roof is one piece with the rear butresses. The styling line along the centre of the side of the body is also normally black.
