I am new here and have been thinking about getting a 360. I have been doing some research, and just recently registered. I currently have an '09 GT-R. It is my first "supercar" if you will. It is an amazing car to drive. It actually gets a lot more attention than I initially thought it would. People will chase me down in parking lots, take pictures and videos while driving, etc. I can't imagine what Ferrari owners have to go through. I just liked the car, and for the price you get a whole heck of a lot of performance!

However I have always wanted a Ferrari, and I am seriously considering selling the GT-R for a 360. A CS would be the car for me, but I can't swing the price. Can anyone here with experience in both cars please compare them for me?

I found a '99 F1 that has the CS ECU, TCU, wheels, side skirts, rear grill, carbon diffuser add-on, f430 exhaust and muffler conversion, CS specs on factory coil-overs and camber, CS front brakes (brembo 6 pot calipers), dyno'd around 400 whp. Would this car be close to an orignal CS in performance? Or closer to a normal 360?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to any input.

I'd like to see that dyno. To answer your question I would first have to know what kind of driver you are and what you expect from your cars.

The 400 whp is claimed. I don't know enough about 360s to know if this is accurate or not.

As far as what kind of driver I am...I just use the car to cruise around. I like to have fun in the twisties (not to much of that where I live), slide the car around a little, and do some highway pulls now and then. I guess normal spirited driving. I have never gone to the track, but it is something I will definitely do. I really drive like a grandma most of the time, but like to have the capability when I want to have fun. The GT-R is very fast up to about 120, the suspension and breaks are phenomenal. One of the best parts of the car is the transmission. It shifts incredibly fast, and precise. I love the paddle shifter. All the electronics in the car are cool. I just like being able to tell the car to go in normal mode, sport mode, race mode, etc. My one gripe about the GT-R is it is almost too good. The car does amazing things, but you don't feel as a driver that you made it happen.

As far as what I expect from my car or what I am looking for...a car that can perform better than 95% of the cars out there. I am talking about handling, breaking, acceleration, top speed, etc. Something that will put a smile on my face every time I look at it and drive it. Also a car that will be reliable, and not break the bank on normal maintenance. Something I can jump in and take a road trip if I want to. I drive my cars. I am not looking for a garage queen.

I have always wanted a Ferrari and have an itch to get one. However I am worried the 360, what I can currently afford, won't mathc up with the GT-R in the performance category. I think I would be happier in a F430 or CS, but like I said can't swing the price. I just want to know how the two cars compare performance wise, fun factor, etc.

I have a 360 and my buddy has a GT-R. They are comparably priced; yet mine is almost a decade older. His car is without a doubt a rocket compared to mine; yet mine still very much puts a smile on my face every time I step on the accelerator. Basically, with the GT-R you will get a fast car that drives superb and makes a great track car without any mods but 99% of the population thinks it's just another nice looking Nissan, though you and I know everytime we see one that it's "special". The 360 still is mistaken for a current model and get head turning from car guys, to kids, to moms - they may not know what it is but they know that it's not like others on the road. (I was asked the other day by a mom if I would open up the doors so her kids could see how they open "straight up"!) Then factor in reliability issues and maintenance costs. Like the previous poster said, it's about what you want out of the car. I know my car is not as fast but I'm not taking it to the track and I knew about the "issues" getting in and I've never been happier. I do envy his launch control though...

Good luck on your journey either way.

I too thought seriously about the GT-R & Z06! Both have great performance for the money!
But, I bought the 360! Have loved every second of it! These 360's are great cars and so much fun to drive! I have the F1 gear box and love that too. I bet you'll find a bit more hesitation with the 360's gearbox than the GT-R, but it has a racecar rawness to it that I just find intoxicating!
The experience of driving and owning a Ferrari is once in a lifetime for me! My bet is you'll feel the same way!

    Good Luck with your search!

Same for me, I was looking at a Lotus Esprit Final Edition, a GTR, or a Z06. Went with a 360 Spider and can't believe the attention. Went to a charity event last night, be it I live in a relatively small area, about 100k to 150k people. Even the maintenance guys from the hotel were asking if they could take pictures, and mine is not even red, it's silver. As for performance, the steering and handling are great, the car handles extremely flat. Comparing outright performance, a GTR or Z06 would destroy it every time, but the sound through tunnels and underpasses just can't be beat. Get a Tubi, Capristo, or Kriessieg exhaust, if you want louder, get sport cats, and you will have a smile on your face every time you drive it. My neighbor down the street has a silver coupe, and actually pats his car every day before he goes to work. If you are having a bad day, take it for a ride, and not only will you be cheering up yourself, you will be cheering up everyone who sees you driving it, it's that special.

Personally, I think the GTR might be a better car compared with the 360. Yes, the 360 will probably get more looks because it's a Ferrari, but driving wise, I just didn't feel like the 360 made an impression on me. The GTR is very robotic, but still very fast...and the gadgets are cool. If you can, I would enjoy your GTR since you haven't had it for too long, and maybe wait for some more cash and get into a F430.

Good advice. I am also not willing to spend what F430s are going for right now, and am patiently waiting for their prices to come into the current F360 range. Hopefully not more than 3 years or so....

Dont know why you would not suggest a 360? after owning a 360 I would not buy a 430 because its like I'm buying the same car again ...

430 is an improvement and faster but the interior same exterior minor differences
That doesn't justify the price difference

I am lucky enough to have both. I drive the GTR every day and use my F1 360 Spider at the weekends. I really do love the GTR because it is such a great car that can do everything from regular commutes to track days and everything in between - we recently did a road trip around Ireland with wife, 3yr old and 3 month old with no complaints although I would have rather taken the Ferrari!!. All that said the Ferrari is very special car and not sure you can compare the two as they are very different. I would not consider selling my Ferrari unless buying another it has a real sense of occasion whenever you drive it and most importantly it makes you feel good and sounds great, the downside is you wont drive it enough.

If I was you I would go for the Ferrari you wont regret it and if you do sell it and buy the new 2011 year GTR!!

I owned the GTR, but sold it as the expereince of actually driving was far removed. Too robotic, video game like. Add in the very heavy feel, underwhelming exhaust note that is hard to cure (at least when I owned the car), and jerky trans and you have a car that is paper fast, but not road pleasing.

I immediately tested a 360 Spider, then a F430 coupe and was not impressed enough to buy either. On my list next is a CS and Scud which undoubtedly will provide the visceral thrill I am seeking. I dont care if they are slower than the GTR becuase I know they will feel and sound a heck of a lot more fun.

GTR did get a lot of looks in SoCal though. Not saying that as a positive either.

i had a 348 spider for 5 yrs and sold it for a 07 porsche gt3. that lease is about to end and im planning on replacing it with a gtr. 360 is beautiful and special but im going with practicality and capability in a daily driver/track car. and the gtr is getting upgraded power, suspension, brakes, and interior for next yr.

maybe you should hold on to gtr for while longer and then go with a 430 as those prices drop? either way, you owe it to yourself to experience a ferrari at least once in lifetime.

Agreed! After owning a 360 I don't see how moving to an F430 will cut it....Its just too similar. But, I would consider a 458 Italia though! Yeah, thats the ticket!

Thank you everyone for reporting your experience. I think I just need to drive a 360 and see how I feel about it. In the looks department, a 360/430 are just gorgeous beautiful cars. However I think after my experience in the GT-R if the Ferrari doesn't give me a similar feel and peg the fun factor meter, I will have to wait until the CS or 430 come down in price. I can't justify owning two sports cars like this right now.

People here are saying the 430 is too similar to the 360, but when you look at specs it is very similar to the CS which is a cult followed car. In fact I have read the 430 was the next step after the CS not the 360. Any thoughts on this?

I respectfully disagree. The 430 interior is far superior to the 360. I actually think the 360 exterior looks better but they are similar especially to the untrained eye.

I like Ferraris so much that I would own a "slow" 328gtb over a GTR, but I would have to make the a.c. work well. Go drive a 360 and then think about it.

I'm not sure what city you are in... but before I bought a 360 I rented one from an exotic/lux place for a decent price. This gave me the full experience with only myself being the judge...

    IMHO the GT-R > 360

all depends on the experience you want out of the car

performance wise, the GTR will win hands down. But you're still driving a car with the same name badge of 5 out the 20 cars stopped at the same light as you.

but they are still great cars and excellent performance for the money. I think I would rather get a Porsche than a GTR

When I was at the Colorado Grand a few weeks ago when I got to the parking lot people were taking pictures of my 360. A guy in a GTR came over and said; I love your car.

    Enough said.

Having owned Pcars there is nothing like the ownership of an Fcar. Nothing.

    I love driving the 360.

May the horse be with you.

I do like the GT-R, but I don't think I'd truly enjoy driving it...at least, long term. IMO, the GT-R was built to dominate the competition and prove a point. Consequently, driver involvement was tertiary.

At Ferrari, the driver receives higher priority. The car must perform, but it has to provide a unique feeling. It starts by looking at it, then sitting in it...hearing it start, feeling the motor's raw yet refined nature, its willingness to rev...feeling the chassis respond, enjoying the sound and acceleration. It's an enveloping and special experience.

Whether old or new, a Ferrari's most addictive feature is its motor, IMO. It's the only one I've experienced that always feels like it wants to be spinning faster than it is. My old GT3, though it revved spectacularly, did not give me quite the same feeling.

As you said, you have to drive one. Then you'll know whether or not it's for you. If the GT-R wasn't fast, would you still enjoy driving it? Plenty of guys love driving their older Ferraris that are slow by today's standards. That says a lot.

    Good luck.

That's an interesting question. I have both a GT-R and a CS. GT-R is a daily driver and I love it. In auto mode it is almost like a powerful luxury car and switch to manual and it becomes a performance monster. Would I still enjoy it if it wasn't fast? Probably not.
