But the car cannot take slicks... coz the ABS will not work properly. They have to reprogram the ABS ECU, etc, etc.

quite strange that ferrari did not ensure tires would be available in the market for 458s to track. what did they expect u to use ? your scud?

Maximus is afternoon straight after BMWSG. I will be doing that too, as will a couple of the other guys. Jack isn't though.

Must be that the 458 is plenty fast enough without the need for slicks!!!

thanks for the encouragement guys. took the car out just for a short test drive.must say for a 6 speed zf auto, the box is quite slick n smooth in manual, esp in sport mode- better than a porsche tiptronic i feel.suspesion also very firm -maybe a tad too firm. now need the dbw n ecm. also, there's a bit of drone at low rpms i think from the tubis. maybe larinis have a lighter smoother feel

Congrats again on the new(old) QP Tim! And enjoy in good health!

It's still my favourite 4-door sports saloon of all time, bar the Rapide. The ZF auto should be much smoother than the previous DuoSelect semi-auto fitted on earlier models. There were many bad reviews about the gearbox being jerky at low speeds, just like most other semi-autos. Glad they fixed it and gave it a proper gearbox to suit the car.

Mate, I am booking the first ride in the 458 at Sepang as I have not sat in your car yet, let alone seen the darn thing.

At least that way I will have the priviledge of being the first passenger to have sat in a 458 around Sepang!!!!! And will report the barf inducing ride on my blog!!!

By the way I will be bringing you the SMF t-shirt on the day... you better wear it! hahaha

Definitely bud. But you gotta try to make it!! This will be a great session with the 458 going for gold! Man, I have never looked so forward to a track day!!! Cant wait!!!

Lung's virgin 458, GT2, Justin's virgin Superleg (which he better take on the track for the second session!) and Ken's virgin Techart GT Street. Crazy stuff!!!

The Quattroporte is a nice sedan, not quick, but as someone said on the Forum it's got Soul! I actually like the duo select because it makes you feel like speed racer, BUT it's the weak point of the car. The ZF is nice but now it's a different ride- more of the gentlemen's car. Theres a Maserati mechanic in LA, Eddie Rodriguez- on this forum, that is trying out Kevlar clutches to prolong the duo select clutch. I've heard its been done on the 360. BTW, I'm instructed by my friend in Indonesia to trade his 22 year old son's quattroporte with the new Aston Martin Rapid, so we are picking it up on Thursday in Newport Beach. Tight squeeze for my 6'2" son, but it's comfortable when seated.
