You're not wrong. I was looking at a photo of something pretty mundane that I had taken a while ago and in the background was a red F512M that I had totally missed.

Sir Paul's taxi has a shiny black roof but we would not know that as it is never up when Sir Paul is blasting around!

Thats right. Dont want to wear the roof out so leave it open. Just nowhere to put the illuminated "TAXI" sign now!

At least get the meter for your dash. There is a lovely one in Mong Kok which also functions as an air freshener...

Nice Acura NS-X seen in Wan Chai last night in immaculate original condition (aside from the wheels). Also a Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, which is the first I have seen in HK. This thing is absolutely huuuge...

The NSX is a complete repaint..not original. Should see the new RR convertible in the showroom. One big boat with the teak/stainless fittings and is for immediate delivery as well!

Ah ok, thanks for the info! What's the convertible? A Drophead? Saw a couple of Ghosts yesterday too.

The RR model in the pix is a coupe, convertible is a true soft top. Not like SLK/BMW3 series with the retractible hardtop etc. BTW, U take great pixs, always enjoy viewing them a true pro. Just interested, where/when do you find the time to do such?

Yes, the Roller in my pic is a Phantom Coupe not a Drophead. I don't spend that much time taking photos but I do take my camera everywhere, all the time which coupled with the fact that HK throws up so many interesting cars means I tend to get a lot of pictures. Processing the photos takes up the most time but I thoroughly enjoy doing so. The comments I get make it all the more worthwhile! :)

Good idea! My hair is about the same grey as the roof on a HK taxi!

AM Rapide. Will these be competing for roadspace with the 4porte and Panamera soon? What do you reckon?

Tough sell as we are talking about $ 3 mil!! Very close to used Bentleys. Also loads of used AM for sale but moving very slowly.

Speaking for myself, the rapide certainly is prettier than the other choices out there. I haven't seen one in person yet - how is the interior? Has it improved over the early DB9s? My 2004 DB9's interior was a collection of parts from the Ford bin, even had the same hexagonal shaped key as my father's old Ford Sierra!

I don't know how deep into the parts bins they have gone but from what I can see the interior does look very nice if a little cramped in the back.

$3M?! Perhaps there won't be as many as I imagined.

Before I bought the 575SA I test drove a DB9 with blue leather and a light bamboo wood finish. Not really my taste. Put me off a bit!

My guess is that Rapide will have a following. QP is heavily dated. Panamera is butt ugly in most colours and ugly in the best chosen few. Everyone sick of MB and BM. Rapide is gorgeous

On the topic of Astons and parts bins, etc. am I right in thinking that the DB7 was based on the running gear of the Jag XJS?

The car you tried was my friend's car. He buys a lot of new cars and is attracted to out of the ordinary as he switches pretty quickly. I wouldn't use that as a benchmark for anything.

If I recall, the DB7 used the chassis of the then new XK8 which had a ZF gearbox & Mercedes for the XKR to handle the higher torque. I've driven the XJS which had a very lazy autobox so maybe not for the DB7 but would be interested to listen.

DB7 when first intorduced was based on the XJS platform with the Jaguar 3.2 straight six engine supercharged. It put out 330 HP but the car are loaded then with Ford/Jaguar parts and share the same box as XJ 6 3.2. It was slow by any standard. The next generation of DB7 came with V 12 engine and the MB gearbox to handle the extra torque. The new engine, slight changes in styling and better switch gear gave the car a new future and sold well. It was under then the management of Bob. Dover, ex Jaguar who did the XK8.
