I'm trying to figure out a wiring problem that the schematics I've seen don't help on. The TPS on this car is wired with two blacks and a (tan). The tan and one of the blacks is coaxial(!). Perhaps somebody could pull back the boot on the tps plug and show their positions? You can be my personal hero for the day!

    Robbie,
on the back of the pass. side throttle bodies there is a black TPS with a blue connector and white connector. The white connector should be the one Bruce needs you to look at.
the terminals on it are marked 1-2-3
I have insider info on this deal. :) (I think it's the same one)
The car I have here has #1-blue/white #2- black/white #3- tan/white per the wiring diagram
I'd like to know why it doesn't match the diagram either!!??

It's a b!tch to unplug it, but that's the easiest way to be able to pull the boot back.

    Here's to your TPS reports:

Here are my notes from the Dave Helms gold connector upgrade I did to my car about a year ago....I recorded the following:

    1) red/blue 2) black/white 3) tan/white

FWIW, I hope I am not confusing matters...since mine is earlier, but still 5.2 Motronic.

    Hugh,

Seems late in 98 early 99 Ferrari changed to a Coaxial cable for the TPS wiper contact. I have not found it noted in any of the diagrams. Worst part is the two diagrams I have show different configurations to the ECU. Last night I started to reverse engineer this and should have an answer this AM when I get the the shop. Logic says the wiper contact would be the shielded wire, the shield being low side and the third the feed voltage. Using this thinking I am going to see if it plays out on the wiring diagrams. Ferrari has an odd habit of changing the noted pin numbers on these diagrams and you can not trust anything until you find two sources that agree with one another.

I am working on an issue with a friend's 98 F355 with a short in the TPS cable. The cable was updated with the gold connector upgrade by a shop and has since developed a short between pins 2 and 3. This car has the coaxial wiring described. I am including photos. The wire looks in pretty bad shape, so we are going to clean it up and redo the pins this weekend. Hopefully the short is caused by the cut in the black coaxial wire and cleaning it up resolves the issue. If not, we will be checking the wiring back to the ECU with an Ohmmeter.

I am updating this post in case someone else runs across a similar issue in the future.
The issue has been resolved thanks to Bruce (Plugzit).

I probed the wires and found opens and ground shorts that indicated that the wire was not properly connected to the ECU. Since the wires were different colors than the connections at the ECU, I assumed they had been spliced at some point and had come apart at the splice.

    WRONG.

I always get on my employees about not looking at the big picture when they are troubleshooting and getting too focused on one issue to realize the actual problem. Then I go and do the same thing myself. So, if I had stepped back and considered the entire wiring harness, it would make sense to see if I was actually looking at the correct connector. Eventually, I would have found that the TPS and Knock Sensor connectors had been switched.

Anyway, Kudos to Plugzit for resolving the issue. My friend is back on the road again...

    Tom,
Prior to the fix, what were your friends symptoms for this problem?

It threw a P0123 TPS Sensor code immediately after resetting the codes.
