Any recommendations for a sat nav that includes some sort of mount to allow fitting underneath the heater controls in front of the gearlever?

The alternative is a battery powered one on the screen but on long trips it needs charging sometimes in car and I hate having a cable trailing from socket to screen..

I use my Iphone with a GPS mount - placed below heater controlls. The mount can be folded under the panel when not in use.

Have always the phone and always a fresh GPS with the latest maps. Bought this Iphone
GPS holder to all my cars. Have tried so many ugly solutions, so this is the beat so far.

Anders, do you by any chance have any pics or link to the GPS holder you mentioned above? I would love to get one as well. Thanks

Of course. Its 11.00 AM here now. Hawe to do some working now. Will fix tonight. Mine is a 430 but it is the same story in a 360.
You will have to fix the power from underneath the panel. No visible wires. Always ready to use.

    Pictures comming up tonight.

Garmin / TomTom whatever is great when they are updated. And if you like to have cables all over the place. Just drove a car in Paris with a 3 year old Garmin map. Very frustrating.

With the Iphone you have constant upgrades through an App. Always the newest speed camera positions etc. And you have it always with you.
If you then use Spotify - you have all music in the world at your service.

And even more - if your care brakes down in the middle of the night at Autobahn in Germany - you just press a button on the App for your insurance company and they locate you and send a nearby resque car.
I have not seen anything that beats this. So far.

I researched the hell out of. This and ended up with a Kenwood KVT-696 with the integrated Garmin. Warning/disclosure: I sold my F430 to make my wife happy and the head unit is for sale.

I have to say if you have a google droid, the car navigation feature is superb. You buy a car mount suction cup/holder and car lighter ti mini usb charger. My entire phone contacts list is in my "GPS" including business people where I scanned the card by phone-camera. I can get directions to everone I ener had in my contact list whereever they are located. If I google voice search for a business one of the options I get for every find is to get navigation directions to the business. I can search "where" for local gas stations by price or distance and get directions. There are apps where people report speed traps in real time and you can have bad traffic zones marked in red in real time. There is even a feature that tries to find activities that other users report, like a good club, but that seems not used enough in my area to be useful.
