    I have a solid yellow check engine lite on. 2002 Turbo, seems to be running perfectly. Are these lites similar to Ferrari's - I mean should I park it until I can get the code read? I saw a recent invoice from the prior owner for $2100 for a misfire code. He had new plugs and 3 new coils replaced on the "offending" cylinders......apparently did not change anything.

    Any suggestions on a code reader that I can purchase?

    No need to park it, flashing check engine light park it and get it trailered - solid is not a drivability issue. Make sure the gas cap is fully screwed in (#1 reason for code) Then bring it in at your leisure if thats not it. It's an emission based code/light and could be a number of things - Mine where just 02 sensors on the cats, mine have gone off twice.

    thanks for the info....if I tighten the gas cap, is there a way to reset the lite?

    A solid CEL can be caused by any number of factors......here are some of the most common.........

    1-gas cap venting issue
    2-ignition coil
    3-air mass sensor failure
    4-02 sensor
    5-cat
    6-secondary air injection system and any of it's various components
    7-vacuum leaks
    8-intake air temperatures

    Drive it to the dealer or an independent shop and get is scanned.

    Agreed, but I bet it is the gas cap, used to happen to me all the time, and the car is running fine.

    A duramteric cable would be a good investment on a car out of warranty.

    Oh for sure Morrie.......it's the first place we'd check too. The rubber seal around the cap can deteriorate easily with time.

    CEL could also be variocam actuator failure. If you wait too long, such malfunction can cause damage to your ECU. Ask me how I know. ;-)

    Is there a way to test the cap or do you just replace the gasket?

    There is a leak-tester that can test fuel caps, and I don't think you can get the gasket separate from the fuel cap. I could be wrong on that part though.

    ?........what is that. Is there a code reader that I should purchase? I don't suppose there is any kind of "bible" similar to what we have for the 348 avaialbe?

    As others have said, its probably something simple. If not the gas cap, my guess is a vacuum hose. Have a look and see if one is disconnected.

    I changed the air filter in my wife's Lexus and she noticed a CEL later that day. When I opened the air box it disconnected a vacuum hose underneath it which I never would have noticed. Perhaps something similar happened to you.

    1) Go to a dealer a see if you try a cap from a similar car on the lot.

    2) If you don't have a have an OBD2 scanner (you can buy them for well under $100) Autozone will check it for free.

    3)Find your code(s) on this site:http://www.obd-codes.com/ and then go from there.
