Is it true that there is a "re-set" button on the Weber/Marelli ECU for this car --- and, that it is activated simply by inserting a small object (e.g., paper clip end) into the hole and depressing ???

If so, does this merely switch off the CEL(s) ? Or, does it also clear any stored codes ?

Will it re-flash / re-calibrate the ECU, or have any potential to do any harm to the unit ?

First up, the ECUs are not Weber or Marelli they are Lamborghini. Second, the CELs light up due to the presence of persistent codes. Thirdly, there is no reset button. Forthly, there is a line to each ECU that if shorted to ground clears stored codes (and learned factors) thus extinguishing the CELs. And yes this could be a paper clip if you are brave. Resetting/clearing the ECU will thus force a re-calibrate - none of which is harmful.

    Thanks Mick ---

Don't remember where I thought I read Marelli was involved somehow with the ECU design ?? At any rate, thanks for clarifying that.

Would you care to describe for me which wire needs to be shunted to ground? Or, is there another thread to this?

I suspect the CEL's have popped because of an ongoing prior "low battery voltage / emissions sensor" condition --- which we have now rectified. So, now that the electrical system is again healthy, I wanted to clear the codes / CEL's, go through the ECU re-learn routine, and confirm that the errors do not return.

I realize we are "learning as we go" with this car, but we are in the middle of nowhere with respect to any Lambo techs in the area ----- so, careful, DIY is our best option. And, I certainly do appreciate any instruction from folks such as yourself :)

I've got a 94. The paper clip method scrared me too much.
If you diconnect the battery for 1 hour. This will clear codes.
When you restart. Do not touch throttle. Let idle for 2 radiator fan cycles
    to relearn. Good luck

Really? I can't imagine why --- after all, replacement ECU's cost only about $8,000 each!!!!

If someone could confirm for me precisely which lead to short, I'd give it a go......But, I'm certainly not inclined to go poking around aimlessly with those things until I stumble across the correct circuit ;)

Its a custom design via an Italian company whose name escapes me right now. As far as the paper clip, see the bottom of this page:

And remember, its a pain in the ass trying to get the smoke back into these parts.
