    Hello all!

At first I would like to apologize my poor English, but I hope that you understand at least something.
My name is Ville and I live in Finland.
I am 30 years old proud father of one month old boy and a stressed husband to my wife.

I have bought myself a Maserati Indy last year and am doing some “minor” work with it.
A few months I have just been reading old posts, and found a lot of important information, so thank you all!
This car has been in worst possible condition, so I have a lot to do and was hoping to get some help from you.

Here is some info about my car:
    Maserati Indy AM 116* 0090
    - it is a 4200 cc engine
    - it has the Manual Gearbox ZF S5 . 20
    - the original external Colour is: Beige Metallised (code Max Meyer 16.536 or Salchi 106Y56)
    - the original interior is: Red Leather (Connoly Code PAC 1603)
    - the Date of production is : September 1969
    - the car was delivered for the first time in Munich (Germany)
    - car was NOT equipped with power steering
    - car was equipped with limited slip differential
    - The floor carpets were Bordeaux
(these specs are directly from Maserati factory)

My Indy has been imported to Finland from Germany in 1997 and has been waiting totally parted till now.
I have German papers to the car in my possess, so I know all the previous owners (maybe someone would know them, but I don’t want to post them without permission).

The engine and gearbox have already been rebuilt, and now I have almost sanded the shell to bear metal.
Next step would be the paintjob.
    There I have a problem.
I can not get any paint with max Meyer or Salchi codes from Finland.
Does anyone know this code on ppg chart etc.?
And if anyone could send me a picture of such colour, I could try to get matching shade.

I will try to keep posting here as the slow work goes on, and will post pictures later on.

Any opinions, advices etc. are very welcome!
And if you have any info of my cars history, please tell me.

    -Ville-

    Hello Ville,

    Welcome!

Great to see someone doing an Indy justice. They are beautiful cars, and you don't need to worry about compromising your family-life because of the lack of rear seating.

    For paint:
Any Glasurit or RM equipped shop could match the paint for you. They should have the formulation on their computer, and if they don't, they can get it from BASF in Germany.

Yes, the valve covers should be black wrinkle finish, with the elevated parts bare aluminium. Good looking engine though!

Keep the pics coming, generally we like lots of photos.

    Good luck with the restoration,

    Jack.

The original color, metallic beige, with a red leather interior should be a stunning combination!

    Hello!

Thank you Jack, i called to Basf Finland and they promised to contact to Germany and find out right colour!
Best thing is that my local shop for Glasurit is only 300 meters from my house!
And I didn’t even know it!
Now I have to wait and see..

And Bob, I agree, although I haven’t ever seen this colour but I can imagine..

My purpose is to get this car quite fast into running condition.
If I only had the time and the money, I would do all at once.
I planned to do all the basics right at once, but make the detailing work later on as my budget makes it possible.

I have two interiors for this car, the original red, and a black one.
I will use the black one first, and on the meanwhile rebuilt the original.
Neither one is in perfect shape, but black does the job for now.
But with my slow progress, I don’t have to worry about this yet..

My plan is that in the end this car will be registered as “historic vehicle” in Finnish registration system.
It means cheaper taxes and insurance.
For this, the car must be visually and technically in the same shape it was leaving the factory line.
Not an easy job, but would do justice to my car, as Jack said.

There are still a few things I have to solve.
For example, almost all chrome work is had its better days.
I have two pairs of bumpers, so I will assemble better ones and re-chrome the others.
Best offer for this work in Finland was 2400 Euros, so I’m trying to find a cheaper way.

Paintjob will be something between 5000 and 7000 Euros.
Not a cheap hobby to have while renovating my home. 
But great thing is that it will take at least a month at the paint shop, so I will have time to clean and pain other stuff meanwhile!

But I will take some pictures later today and post them, so you all can see how bad the car is..
It’s a long way, but I think it’s worth it..

    Ville

A bit late for me to respond to your comment 3 weeks later but neverheless color swatches are in my experience not complete: the Khamsin one I have is missing several colors which were undoubtedly offered by the factory. Remember it is Italy not Japan:)

    Hello all!

Only little progress has happened here.
I have now sanded the boot, interior and bonnet area.
All rust, paint and that black soft soundproofing has gone.
Now i have used few litres of phosphoric acid and painted all with epoxy paint.

Next step is to make all brake and clutch lines and check all wirings at the front.
So maybe the engine goes in next month.

I had no luck with the paint code problem.
Basf Germany informed me, that they can not get any paint with my codes.
So i think that i have to start thinking some other colour.

I hope my house painting doesn’t take all the time and i can also find time to build my Indy.

    Hello!

It has been such a busy at work, that only little progress has been made here.
Summer was the hottest ever in Finland, and I had a little trouble to get used with that.
It was so hard to do sanding at sunshine, I prefer a bit colder.

    But what has happened:

I have overhauled brake and clutch systems.

Radiator is under work, and I shall have new aluminium that looks just like the original.

Chrome parts will be sent to Poland next week and be re chromed.

My other set of rims are now at blaster/painter and I should buy new tires, any idea what to ask for?
Should I go with original Michelins?
    Or are modern tires better?

All preparations for painting are almost done.

Indy leaves to paint shop next week and I have a biiiiiig problem with the colour.
I still have not found any information about this original colour or its codes. (Beige Metallised code Max Meyer 16.536 or Salchi 106Y56)
If anyone has anything to help me, please do.
Even a colour photo would help me a lot.
If I don’t find any solution, I have to change to something not original.
This same “Beige Metalizzato” has been used also in some other Maseratis so I hope someone would fin a photo or something.

A lot of questions, a lot to do and too little time.
    Nothing new :)

I have been very pleased with the Michelin XWX tires that I bought for my Longchamp.Totally transformed the handling. In my opinion it is impossible to get high profile tires as stiff as the XWX from anywhere else. Not to mention, that the lowest quote that I got for the XWX was from Finland...

    Hello Ville,
I had the same problem when restoring my Vignale spyder. What I have done was:
I sent a fax to the factory, to Mr. Cozza with the VIN of my car and asked for the colour sample.

Within a few days I got back a plastic plate 15 x 10 cm with the exact color and the SAVADIN number.
From this sample every paint shop should be able to match the colour.
Try to ask Mr. Cozza (or his co-worker, I don't know his name).

Before using another colour I would prefer to find out the original colour, how ever many time it takes.

    Good luck - best regards
    Alfred

    Hello!

Some update on my slow progress.

Searching for that “beige metallizzato” colour has finally ended!
Mr. Collina surprised me by finding a colour sample.
He took pictures in different lights and sent those; he wouldn’t send the original sample to me because it is the only one left at the factory.
I shall add those pictures here, if anyone else needs one.
Direct code for this colour is impossible to find, so I have to match it by using just photos.
I will try to get as close as possible.
I think the colour is very close to oro kelso!

Also a couple of pictures from the paint shop, showing the sad state of car.
Painter is now working with those million dents that we found hiding behind filler.
Then whole body will be sand blasted and applied with acid primer.
Hopefully next week it has only one colour.

I also found that this car is not matching numbers, as I thought.
    Engine is numbered AM116/538!
Mr. Collina informed that car was serviced on factory at September 1971, and at that time it still had its original engine.
So if anyone has any information about indy numbered as 538, I would be interested what has happened to this car.
And where has my original 090 engine ended up..?

    Re MArrone Colorado

My 1972 Ghibli was also painted this color and I had a similar problem finding a formula for the color. I found a color from Spies Heckler that was an exact match. The color is an Alfa Romeo color # 543 Luci Del Bos Series # 293 95020. When i had a sample mixed it looked very close. When I had the gallon of color mixed I sprayed in in the trunk next to the original paint and put clear over both. Even an expert could not see any difference in the two colors. I can supply the Spies Heckler formula by each item but the above information should allow you to get the correct paint. attaached is a picture of the Ghibli. Note the complete car is a picture before it was painted. The other two are after.

My Ghibli was also originally Beige Mettalizzato 106Y56. Can you please post photos of the completed Indy?

Also if someone has a Maserati painted in this color I would really like to see some photos.

    Hi Ivan,

Sorry to say, i don`t have any pics yet!
Car has been paintet for a few months now, but i still haven`t seen it ..
I`ve been so busy after changing my workplace, that indy has been left to background.

I`m currently at States, and heading home to Finland in beginning of next month.
I will definately post some pics when I have my car home.

But i actually found the color from DuPont!
I`m not sure was it the salchi 106y56 or MaxMeyer 16.536, but one of these two.
And the code was a direct match!
I painted a sample and referred it to pics given by the factory, and the colour was the same.
I will ask the code from my wife and give you accurate details later today.

Funny thing is that the main distributor of DuPont in Europe said that they do not have these codes or colours and they have no possibility to help me.
A day later the paintshop sales guy found it accidentially from their most basic sample sheet, and as said, the code was a direct hit..

    Thank you Ville.

I plan on taking the Ghibli on a drive later this month and in October will start to remove the chrome and glass. It is possible that I find some of the original paint once I disassemble the car, it all depends on how good of a job was done when the car was changed to red.

Having a Dupont code will be very useful.
