Now while you all are exploring this recess, look for the drainage hole. It's a good idea to make sure it's unobstructed as all the car's drainage hoses should be.

My fuel door is nothing like the illustration at page H 67 of the manual. It has a big beefy finned hinge and nothing else. Weird. Maybe they ran out of parts that day and decided to substitute, lol.

I didn't realize this either and it's good to learn something new every day.
When I fueled up the 575 or Barchetta, I would pull the rubber flap out as far as possible and rest the gas cap on this, so as to not scratch the paint around that area.

I always thought "Why would they attach a retainer cord to the fuel cap and have no proper place to rest the cap?"

Exactly what mine looks like. You saved me from having to upload the photo I took this morning; Thanks, Erik!

Looks like $97 with some retrofit to put the 550/575 lid hinge assembly on our car- maybe it's a direct bolt on even... http://www.ricambiamerica.com/parts_catalogs.php?M=FE&P=&V=diag&I=371

    Anyone parting out a Maranello?

Compare the photos of the 550 and 456M filler compartments. My guess is that there's a reason they don't have a holder on the 456M door: lack of clearance. You won't be able to close the lid after the install. What I can't figure out is why there's that discrepancy in the owner's manual.

My OM has a drawing that looks exactly like the car- page H67. Yours is very strange indeed.

Anybody have an '03 to compare?

Amazing isn't it - looks like most of us who DO have the holder never realised it was there and never used it. Now we know about it we can't live without one and everybody who hasn't got one fitted wants one!
    Strange old world.........

I bought the manual after I got the car shows a copyright date of January, 2001, so the change in the filler cap hinge may have been a running update. I still don't know if the revised hinge would fit or whether there were changes made to the filler neck to accommodate the addition of the hinge.

Now, if you place the gas cap in the holder with the Ferrari logo outward, there's a chance that you might scratch it with the gas pump nozzle. Then you're all gonna be replacing your gas caps in addition to your shift knobs evry few weeks.

    Okay, I saw it.....

I like MY Australian cap holders the best.......I just love the way that blond wears her clothes, although the red headed one is probably the wilder....hard to say.....

I'm afraid your cupholder couldn't out swim the sharks....:D

Hello all - recognize very old thread, but had a gas cap issue on my 575 today. Button didn’t work so used the release in the trunk. Gas door opened fine. Filled up and now gas door won’t close. Any ideas or tips?

The door won't go flush or it's not latching?

If not latching, the emergency release cable or solenoid plunger/pin may have jammed in the open position. Tried spraying a little lubricant onto the plunger/pin? Do you hear the solenoid clicking when you push the gas door release button? If no clicking, check the relay (R12) in the passenger footwell. There's also a fuse, but that should be ok, as it also powers the trunk lid opening actuator.

I had that problem on a long road trip with a near empty tank and at 0 dark 30. The mechanical release didn't open the "flap" either. I could hear the solenoid working but no opening. Finally slipped a plastic card where the catch is and it opened. Bent the metal flange/hook a small amount and haven't had the problem since. Maybe with a lot of refueling, the metal flange can be bent and prevents opening and/or closing.

You need to be very careful with the rubber protection flap, too, to make sure it does not foul the release mechanism.

So no clicking sound when the release button is pushed (but trunk release button does work). The pin must be stuck in the open position…
