I remember seeing it Concorso Italiano at Quail in the late 90's when Al brought it there along with the artist that did the paint design. I actually have the home video of the whole presentation on stage.

i would like to add just to be clear this is not a factory Jota

but a "Jota Americana" , a diablo modified by Al Burtoni (aka V12 engineering)

i have no idea how good his worcks are honestly, but this car is a very modified car that has taken some inspiration from the Jota kit (official and made by factory), not only for the name but also for the intake, number and position of throttle bodies (4)

Yes, that was Al Burtoni's personal car. I saw it at his shop when he rebuilt my Countach engine.

Al's work is very good but very pricey

What then are the two large dia. pipes for, they can't be air intake as the car has velocity stacks, seems redundant to me?

I can't say I'd buy anything with that name associated with it.

The hood scoops are in all the pics except the pics where the engine cover is removed ( the scoops are part of the engine cover) .

I drove this car way back when Al was first selling it (~10 years ago or so). It ran good. It was slightly faster than an SE30, so it was making good power to be faster than an SE with the extra weight of a 2wd early Diablo (~200 #). We know because I wanted to see how fast it was so we drag raced it against an SE...rolling start from about 40 to 120 mph, and the Jota Americana was a little faster. Al tricked a bunch of stuff out, but for some reason, it didn't hold up and Evans had to redo everything. I don't buy that the 'redo' was from it sitting, though, as the auction suggests.

I purchased a 2003 Murci from Roy. Apparently back in the day a lot of folks in the Bay Area were getting this exhaust because the guy (Burtoni) was in Gilroy, CA.

The car arrived with this exhaust (and an ugly 4-port exit). I ordered a Larini exhaust to replace it before I even took delivery of the Murci.

The pics are of the old exhaust coming out of my car. They are basically straight pipes, yes. They have what looks like sensor bungs welded in place and plugged. Very heavy. Big PITA to remove (And I imagine it was to install as well).

Poor quality. Spray can paint. Paint was flaking off big time during removal. Like it was snowing. Pipes are not tuned in any way. Just run for fitment and nothing more it would appear.

Larini exhaust is a night and day difference. Sounds like a V12 again instead of a big V8. Build quality, weld quality, material quality... all exponentially greater in a system like the Larini vs the Burtoni.

Last I check the V12engineering and Burtoni website went down. I think maybe they finally folded?

    tks very much for explaining

the paint and quality looks bad from pics

i cannot understand how they made a straight pipes sistem heavy :-o
it is almost impossible to do

my sport exhaust sistem (for diablo...but very similar to murcielago's) is under 10 Kgs and is silenced! a straight pipes should be easily under 5 Kgs

last question, performance wise: do you feel the Larini is better?

    Sound-wise, yes 100% better.

Performance-wise I don't know. I don't trust the butt dyno. Prob a negligible difference unless you're into bench racing. Open pipes vs slightly baffled vs OEM. Both systems are prob a 10-20hp improvement over OEM (based on my research, not experience as I did not start with the OEM box). I imagine the Larini at least does a better job moving air than the Burtoni. The Larini has fewer flanges, fewer turns, smoother and less aggresive bends. It looks more efficient and probably more effective as a result.

While I will stay away from some of the other criticism, this tuning issue is far from fact. The engineering of the pipes tuning has a long story to it. The tuning was not authored by Burtoni and is/was technically superior to many on the market - even today.

I know this car . We did a few rallys together . The car has been very well cared for by that owner i can say . The color and the interior were not for me though . Its a unique looking car just not my style at all .

It's a non functional roofscoop held with double back tape. It has the Carbonfiber "like" application on it. These are usually put on the hoods of japanese cars to make it look like it has forced induction i.e civic. It does give it that MaClaren F1 look though don't you think?

From the VIN one can see that this Jota Americana is on of the oldest Diablos built, it's MLA12182, which means the 182nd Diablo 2wd from 1991.
