LOL!! I love those Xtra-Normal videos.... "you will live in a rat infested apartment that you will barely be able to afford" That guy is UNRELENTING! LOL!! Jedi
Oh my God!! Girlfriend is an Architect and always talking about FLW and Gehry and Leed certification etc. That thing is too funny.
Laughing my rear end off!!!! "I will have all of the best clients, and do the biggest buildings!" "You will hate your clients, they will make you change a single walls' location 20 times by two inches. When they finally decide to let you submit the drawings, the drawings will be what you originally drew a year and a half ago. "I will love my clients" "Did you eat lead paint chips as a small child?"
should be mandatory viewing upon submitting an ap for school... very funny and unfortunately all too true.
The "So you want to be a lawyer" one was 10x better. This one was more geared to insults of the girl.
I'm married to an architect. 20 years in the biz, licensed, degreed, Leed AP certified, etc. All too true. She will willingly talk anyone OUT of being an architect. It ain't The Fountainhead, at all.
I know quite a few who have been indoctrinated into thinking Architecture and urban planning are some form of higher power to restructure society for the better. They know cuz their ponytailed professor who couldn't cut it in the real world told them so. These folks feel they are the anointed and chosen ones. That girl sounds exactly the way many young Architects do. The insults are aimed more at that mindset IMO. That video is to Architecture what Spinal Tap is to rock music.
IMO, Architecture is the profession with the most profound disconnect between school and working in the real world.
+1000 I'm in the swimming pool industry, we have clients that reside in gated "master planned" luxury communities with the worst shedding trees planted near the pool. One genius architect designed a nice Tuscany theme home, and thought it was wise to put olive trees in planters, with their branches hanging over the pool.
Dumb, definitely. When I was working, for-construction site planning involved many factors, but decisions like that were usually after-the-fact and came via another consultant. Most clients were too cheap to keep the primary architect involved through the whole process.
I think that's the only edit the cartoon could use, getting blamed for things you had nothing to do with because they happened after the fact or weren't part of the contracted services.
