The time has come... :) I am starting my search for my first F-Car. I am interested in an F430 and want to purchase one that is still under warranty. I have found an F1 coupe that caught my eye which is an '09. A one owner car that is offered as certified preowned from a dealer on the west coast and I am on the east coast...

A few questions for you guys.

I was told that due to the cpo, all four tires were replaced even though the car only has 2200 miles? Is this normal? A front wheel was "refinished" due to a small scratch as well (challenge wheels).

A "101" inspection was done, manifold, emissions and compression all normal. Brakes at 7mm front, 6mm rear. Normal?

Clutch at 9% wear. Normal for 2200 miles?

Anything else I should be looking out for?

    Thanks!

Highly unusual that front pads have more left than rear, altho' the numbers are close and could be just measurement margin of error. Ask to see full svc history. That should tell you if the front pads have been replaced. If so, seems a bit early to have needed that. All 4 tires replaced at 2200 also early imo. Ask if car has seen a bit of track.

Not sure how linear normal clutch wear is. If linear, that projects out to 20K for new clutch for 1st owner. That seems a bit rough on the clutch imo, assuming wear if linear. For comparison mine shows 19% wear at 8K.

Only other reason I can think of for rear pads having less than front is from E-brake drifting..hehe! This is of course just a wild guess...no data to back up. Thus, it's more likely a measurement error by the system.

The color combination also plays a role in the value of the F430. Strange color combinations like yellow with a blue interior or blue with a red interior (yes 430's were actually built with those color combinations) lower the resale value. Red/tan is obviously the most popular combo. Black dash is also important; less reflection than tan for example.
Nothing on the east coast? Did you look on cars.com and autotrader.com for possible choices?

Also I don't understand why an 09 is a CPO car. It's still under new car warranty. Just a 101 point check would not have mandated new tires.

I'll double check on the svc history just in case. Sales guy told me he has seen worse clutch wear with low miles and the 9% is "average".

I sure hope not! :) I am also thinking just a margin of error...

Nothing strange about this one. I actually think it is very tastefully done. Rosso Corsa with Nero Leather & Alcantara inserts. Red stitching.

Not much to choose from with '09 coupes. A search across dupont, cars and autotrader yielded less than a dozen at the moment...

The copy of inspection actually mentions "tires front and rear" are OK. As per sales, "please replace all four tires"...

With the clutch wear, I wonder if the tires were replaced because they showed signs of abuse. The rear brake wear could be from the stability kicking in a lot. I've tracked my 430 quite a bit and brake wear was pretty uniform but the fronts are always more worn than the rears.

I wouldn't worry about any of the things you mention. The car is only a year old, only has 2200 miles on it and is still under warranty. I can see light driving wearing the rear brakes faster than the fronts, as in, there is a slight rear weight bias that doesn't get transferred to the front because it was so lightly driven, so the rear brakes might actually do slightly more work. It's also w/in the range of error. IIRC new pads aren't much thicker than 9-10 mm new. The sales guy probably had the tires replaced so that the car would show better. Clutches can wear on F1 transmissions rather fast, depending on how it was driven. Again, here, this is more likely a sign of light driving than track use (usually you can tell if a car is tracked by the stone chipping and other wear underneath the car). F1 transmissions don't always fully lock up in stop and go driving, as well as when driven in reverse, which can cause quite a bit of wear. So if the prior owner did a fair amount of around town driving (must be, with only 2200 miles; if he drove it on long drives he didn't drive it very often, or he drove it fairly regularly it was on short trips - 2200 comes up in a hurry - e.g. 100 miles every other weekend?) and backed into his garage a lot, I can see some wear on the clutch in 2200 miles. If the car looks good to you and has what you want, and you get the price you want, go for it!

I have never seen the standard seats on a 430 done with full alcantara inserts before. It looks very smart and much better than the standard full leather seats which have a rib design that goes part way across from both sides of the seat and then just stops. Challenge wheels are also nicer than the standard double spoke wheels to. Nice find!
You should see if the dealer can provide a copy of the original window sticker.

Salesman told me he knows the original owner very well since the car was bought and serviced there since new and he has had many F-Cars including this one which was traded in for a 458 that is due to arrive soon.

I was provided with a scanned copy of the window sticker. The Alcantara seat and door inserts were a $4137 option.

There is a great selection of Scuderia models available right now.
Used 2008 with only 70 miles for 229k - but it is black/gray at LFSC. Prices in some cases don't properly reflect the mileage and are all over the map (210 - 249 range) and some 2008 cars don't have the full carbon exterior package that was later made standard.
