Should Clutch Be Replaced

    So the engine is put back together, and it's going back in the car in the next couple of days. I pick up my first Ferrari ('97 F255) in Scottsdale later this week. I asked the technician to check the clutch and he said it's at 60%. Should I go ahead and replace it while the engine's out? Also, how much should I expect to pay for the parts? Thank you!

    Is it a F1 clutch or manual clutch? I wouldn't know what to tell you on the F1 but as for the manual clutch, I wouldn't replace it so long as:

    -- you have even wear across the clutch disc and pressure plate
    -- no hot spots
    -- flywheel looks true
    -- no evidence of clutch fluid leaking

    Some guys will tell you to go ahead and replace the teflon triple seals if you've gone as far as taking it all apart already. Up to you.

    A new clutch disc will run you $360 or so plus shipping. The entire clutch pack (disc plus pressure plate/housing) will set you back around $1,000. Ask me how I know. ;)

    i would just add if no oil either I wouldnt do triple seals.

    Are you assuming that a brand new OEM flywheel disc is machined prefectly flat?

    The one pictured on the right(one with hacksaw blade)...is that a new one from the factory(Ferrari) or is it one of those supposedly new ones that you exchange over there in the UK?

    The ones I have which are OEM factory complete assemblies are not machined perfectly flat.

    Genuine Ferrari, not genuine flat but not far off.

    The slight off 90 deg is purpose design from OEM.
