has anyone heard of this before? it's an 02 with only 15k miles and there was no warning sounds or anything, just bang, game over? Waiting to hear the extend of the damage but obviously isn't going to be pretty... I thought these v12's were bullet proof...

p.s meant to read "snapped timing chain"

Anything built by man can fail.

We think of timing chains as being superior to belts but they are made up from hundreds of small parts and every one has to be perfect. The chain is connected with a "master link" that uses a simple spring clip to stay together. They have been known to come off.

    "Bulletproof" isn't absolute.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

Holy Crap! I've never heard of this....ever! Rifledriver on Fchat used to say they're weren't bullet proof and would use Lamborghini as an example....though, I've never heard of one breaking.

Relax, it's a pretty rare occurrence. No reason to panic.

One could speculate that this occurs when the clip is installed incorrectly or in the wrong direction relative to the rotation of the chain assembly. However there is no way to tell after the fact, that is why some mechanics choose to replace the clip style master link with a permanent one.

Relax? No need to panic? Guy just said his timing belt snapped. It's probably going to be a $25k repair. I'd say that it is time to panic a bit.

That was directed at Shamile not the original poster.

Yes for the original poster I would be panicking.

For the rest of the Lamborghini V-12 community I am sure 2NA means do not lose any sleep over it, as it is an extremely rare occurrence for this to happen.

Not that rare. I had the master link fail on my garage door opener. Had to go to the bike shop and get another. It was $1.69. Gotta pay to play I guess... ;)

To the OP... best of luck. Keep us posted. Did you just here 1 big bang, or a spoon in a garbage disposal sound?

Yes that a fair comparison last time my garage door opener turned 7,000 RPM's it failed too. LOL

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

..no, no...I wasn't speaking for myself but the "horror" for the OP. It's one of the one things you just don't have to worry about with Lamborghini ownership. It's a shame it rears it's ugly head once in awhile. But...it's so rare...I've never heard of this happening...especially on a car designed under Audi ownership.

haven't had the engine fully stripped down enough to tell exactly what's happened but turns out the timing chain is still intact so something else has happened but it won't be any better of a result...

Have to wait and see but she may need a new heart...
