What happens if we have the same result next race?

Does Alonso win it? I think the answer is yes.

If Webber comes second and Alonso out of the points will Webber win?

Red Bull is giving us a lesson on how to be dominant but lose the driver's championship. If Horner were a coach in football he would be fired for flubbing it up so badly.

I don't think Horner is the problem, I believe it is Helmut Marko and the Red Bull owner.

http://www.kicker.de/news/formel1/rechner/gp_rechner.html answers all your questions. Drab the driver buttons from below the table onto the grid, and the table on the right shows the standing.

    That being said:

    - If Alonso comes in third, he's champion
    - If Webber wins and Alonso is no better than #4, Webber is champion
    - If Vettel wins and Alonso is no better than #5, Vettel is champion

Webber trails Alonso by 8 points currently. If Alonso comes in 3rd and Webber 1st, Webber will out-score him by 10 points that race and thus be 2 points head of him in the final tally, correct? Not sure how that first line is true.

The way I see it, Alonso is champ if he places 2nd.
Webber is champ if he wins and Alonso gets 3rd.
Vettel is champ if he wins and Alonso is 5th (if Webber is 2nd, all 3 drivers will have the same points).

+1 IMO Redbull or lets say the above wanted Vettel to win this years WDC.

However I think a switch will take place if needed to allow Webber to win it next race, IMHO. If Webber can win the WDC with it.

Yes to both. Or Alonso just needs to finish 2nd what ever happens to be Champion.

Thinking about it Redbull needs to finish 1-2 Webber leading, Webber needs Vettel.

If Vettel leads Webber and Alonso to the finish line, then Alonso will win the title.

Or they need Mclaren in the mix to help rob points of Alonso.

Redbull appear to be leaving it to the last min, to rule out Vettel and get behind Webber.

So just to clarify, if Vettel wins and Webber is second and Alonso say does not finish, Vettel will be World Drivers Champion?

If this is correct, this is what RedBull want.

But it is extremely unlikely that Alonso will be below 5th, so they need Webber to lead Vettel home.

Would Vet give up 1st to let Webber take it and defend 2nd from Alonso in 3rd if we have the same positions late in the final race? Surely RBR would have a plan for this?

If that's not what happens, then there's some real MW hate at RBR, as it would mean they'd prefer Alonso to win than Webber.

    Fair comment, mate.

But I have no idea what they get for a win, second, etc. anymore?. I'm still stuck on 10 for a win and 6 for second, but I believe that has changed ... quite a few years ago.

It would be absolutely asinine for RBR not to tell Vettel to move over and let Webber take the win, if Alonso is in 3rd.

The correct way for RBR to handle this is just to let the chips fall where they may at the last race. If it's Vettel/Webber/Alonso, they need to let Webber through. There is no reason for Vettel to win the last race if it keeps Webber from the WDC.

If MW is leading to SV and alonso is 4th- and not likely to get to second- he should drop back to 5th place - giving SV a chance of winning WDC. They could then take each other out in the fight. If alonso cannot get high enough he neds MW and SV to fight.

    Irony isn't your friend.

Yes, they should be punished - $100k is the going rate for cheating, and a WDC is worth so much more.

Precedent says that team orders are allowed in the closing stages to determine WDC.

Vettel is smart, and he knows how much a double championship means to Red Bull. He'll pull over for Mark if it's the only option to win the WDC. I wouldn't expect him to do this until the last corner though, just in case there is a puff of Ferrari smoke behind him...

Given the relationship between Webber, Vettel and various members of management, I'm not confident that any "orders" would be carried out.
