    My car is doing a Marty Feldman impersonation.

    Anyone with a play by play of how to remove the trim rings and adjust the headlights?

    The trim rings are removed by depressing a spring clip and pulling the ring out. Search the outer perimeter of your headlight ring and you will find one hole with what will look like a pin sticking out of it. That pin is spring loaded and, if depressed, will release the ring. The best tool here is a hard pick with a 90 degree bend in the end. One of those tools dentists use to scrape teeth works well or a fairly stiff metal rod with a short bend on the end.

    Once the ring is out it will expose the headlight adjustment screws which are no different than any other car. The internet is filled with very descriptive aiming procedures where you place some measured marks on a wall and adjust the lights accordingly.

    Good luck with the project. This is an easy one.

    Not all trim rings have any such hole in it. Mine don't...71 246GT Euro

    Mine have a hole, but I thought it was a drain hole.

    I showed Ryan and Danny how to remove theirs just last year. Take a coat hanger, straighten it and with a pair of pliers bend back the last 1/4" or so almost all the way - think fish hook style "V". Insert it in the gap outside of the ring, rotate the hanger so the "V" catches the edge and give a short, sharp pull. Do this 3 times around the ring's circumference at each 120 degree point. Start at the bottom center to prevent ring front edge contact with paint because that is the tightest clearance when the ring starts to pivot forward as it is removed.

    Hope this helps.


    PS - put masking tape or a shop cloth on the paint to protect it is a good idea for your first trial.

    What the hell are you doing driving it after dark?

    Oh, and the headlights don't really help all that much.

    Install a relay and shoot the power directly to the lights, skipping about 3 miles of wire. I bet if you check you're getting about 7 volts at the lamp.

    That'll help more than an alignment will.
