I've hit a minor hitch. The Adelaide dealer Prestige isn't permitted to register the car in SA because they haven't seen the car and want to give me a tradeplate to bring it back so they can register it here on Monday. Is it legal to run a car in Vic on an SA trade plate? Will my insurance still stand? I don't want to be stopped on the way back - I'm worried that I'll be stopped by every patrol car because I have no front plate. Am I being paranoid?

my understanding just spoke to a dealer mate, that the trade plate gives you 3rd party insurance Australia wide.

Can you perhaps get a permit from the transport department to drive it for the day? :):)

I'm more worried about comprehensive but I'll check that with my broker.

Mmm, not sure if that's any better. No plates at all might make for more trouble.

in VIC you can get 7 day permits ,not sure if its ok for a new car.
for $500 just put it in a enclosed carrier, even if you have to borrow the money.

They will pull you over regardless, but if everything is in order I dont think they can do much. :):)

I use a friends trade plate here locally when I move cars around and he tells me ALL the time if I get pulled over by the cops, I have to tell the cops that I work for them and am delivering the car for a customer. :D:D

Throw the trade plate on and drive it. If you get pulled over, tell em you are delivering the car for Ferrari Adelaide.:eek:

I have driven past many cops without plates on the car and I never get pulled over. But these cars arent brand new Ferrari 458's.:eek:

I'm fully maxed out on the Visa - plus I was looking forward to the drive. There are no trucks available for at least a week - that's how the idea started.

Yeah, I'm not going to let a little thing like this stop me. :) :)

a 28 day permit is $68.00 in vic. You can get a one day permit as far as I know, which allows you to drive it to get the car to a registration point.
So you might have to get a VIC one day permit and then a one day SA permit.
    Totally legal.
You can get these permits by FAX and email

In Qld, it is perfectly legit and legal to get a permit (up to 5 days I think) to be able to drive a car you have just purchased from Qld interstate. You also have to arrange a CTP inurance permit for the same days. You don't have any plates on the car, obviously, but it is totally legal.

    Maybe check in SA?

there is no prob with a trade plate, insurance, legality, nothing. it would be one of the few times it would be used for what it's meant to be used for!!

    don't worry...just do it.

I think if you have a trade plate on and a letter from both dealers yep you will get pulled over but the documents ,sale doc and trade plate will keep it clean, just lose the shifty eyes.

I know I'll be legal, but I'm not looking forward to losing time and having to go through the paperwork by the side of the road. I've been stopped twice before in Lambos while driving at the speed limit on this road by bored radar cops keen to meet their "engagement" targets.

The other option is to leave it for a couple of weeks and they will deliver it to my door after a truck is found.

He's busy - all the covered trucks are busy. The dealer has already tried him.
