why does the S.A dealer need to site the car? most if not all new car dealers do there own rego of course in house. Poor effort by them if thats the case, considering you bought it of them.
Seeing as I am such a nice guy. I will fly down to Melb, rent a truck, load the car up, drive to Melb, unload the car at your place, drive the truck back to Melb then fly home. You will have the car on Friday morning mate, just give me the go ahead and I will be on the next plane to Melb.
Dunno. I'll check it out tomorrow when the rego office is open. Going through a standard rego form, there doesn't seem to be a requirement to have seen the car.
in VIC,any new car dealer has the authority to reg a car in house and provide the rego plate. I would suggest the same in S.A.
Maybe it is because it is the first one of the model registered here. Look on the bright side - I get an extra day's driving at no reg cost. Anyway, I'm pressing on with the pick-up if comprehensive insurance isn't affected by the trade plate. I went to a 51 year old's funeral yesterday...that brings it home.
51 year old, now you know why i retired. I've scene to many people retire at 60 to 65 then die within 10 years, bugger that.
Sorry to hear mate. Im going to a 33 yr old's funeral tomorrow. Difference is, my friend hung himself. Sad. My Dad retired 13 yrs ago. He is 75 yrs old now. Still fit and strong, but mainly because he keeps fit and active. He still walks the dog every morning and collects cans the Leaukemia Foundation along the way. If he just sat at home and did nothing with his time..............he would already be dead.
Plate or no plate, surely you'd still get pulled over by VIC cops in a brand-new Ferrari wouldn't you? I've done Adelaide to Melbourne and back many times and they seem to just pull people over for no reason.
Get an unregistered vehicle permit. You nominate a starting address (vic) and an ending address (somewhere in SA). You tell them how many days you need it for and the payment covers the cost and also CTP. You aren't really allowed to deviate from the shortest route between the addresses Insurance you organise yourself. I drove a white VE commo from Syd to Bris with no plates on at all. You are given a special colour rego sticker for the window and thats all. I had no trouble with cops. Trade plates are only supposed to be used for short distances.
I don't even talk to them just hand the D/L over get the fine and drive of,then go to court drag it on for a year then pay it at $5 per month all legal/fuick 'em,its only income in the name of road safety.
yep. my dad always says 'don't worry about anything'....so i never do...and that would include driving on a trade plate. i did it for 2 years solid and my insurance company had no issue with it....and you're doing it in a much more legit way!
Thanks for the additional suggestion. Actually, there isn't a distance limit for SA trade plates although a time limit sometimes applies.. I'll be 100% legal on a trade plate according to the Act. As PP said, I'll be using it for its precise purpose.
David made no mention of that. I know 20 years ago that they could not be used after dark, non trading days and over 100ks from the dealership/yard or similar.
Yes does seem ok according to this: (g) delivery of a motor vehicle sold by a motor vehicle dealer or auctioneer to a place nominated by the purchaser of the vehicle (whether within or outside the State); s29 http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/R/MOTOR%20VEHICLES%20REGULATIONS%202010/CURRENT/2010.30.UN.PDF I have a QLD LMCT and I know the law is not the same there re trade plates
But is the nuisance of doing all that worth it for a few hundred bucks? Or is it about principles for you?
principle, plus the way the points is allocated, its from the date of the offence not when it is paid ie offence june 09 court june 10(no points allocated yet) points allocated to june o9 points come of june 2012 thus they have been only on your D/l for 2 years of the 3 years. the system has an issue and its all legal. it helps if you are already high on points and waiting for 'em to fall of.
as I sit on the adjudicating panel for second hand dealers in the state of SA, so long as its being used for potential sale or demonstration its ok, just like if I buy a car in Melb and drive it on trade plates back to SA....the law is simple under constitutional law of the commonwealth there cannot be a restriction of trade between the states and territories.
