LOL. They told me that guys with Ferraris have small - em - packages. I bought a Ferrari. It didn't get any smaller. Luigi follow only the Ferrari. (Well, plus Indycar and WRC.)
I can tell you this -- most girls would "oooh" and "aaaaah" far more about a Mercedes than any Ferrari. I didn't buy it for chicks. I bought it for myself. Who is in the passenger seat when I'm driving matters very little to me.
I sold mine (but will be buying another next year) but my favorite part was the feeling of accomplishment since I can from poverty.
I live in Canada. So it's taking them out of the garage for the first spin when spring comes around. Like the first time, everytime! And all the other times are not bad either
Don't have one yet...But I do have 3 1:18 models. A Grigio Titanio F430 Spider, Rosso Corsa F355 Spider and a Rosso Corsa F40. I plan on keeping these three models and one day having the same collection, only 18 times larger. Then when I have those cars I am going to put my models on the dash of each car and let it all sink in. Kevin
This, in a tunnel, or even just a parking garage. The sound makes my heart race and gives me goose bumps. Every time.
-the looks, the sounds, the rarity, the heritage, the total experience. -knowing that there is a good repair facility nearby.
Suprised no one has mentioned the smell of leather. Last week I stuck my head in a 355 and it had the same rich scent I found in the 330 GT parked next to it.
Driving it is first but when I walk into the garage and see that yellow badge on the hood......well it just makes me smile everytime!
I've enjoyed many aspects of ownership, but one magical moment sticks in my mind that happened about a week ago. For a brief instant my car became a time and space machine. I was chasing down a 512bb and he was heading into a corner, the air was still think with unburnt hydrocarbons from his full throttle blast, his brake lights went on and for a moment it was 1977 and I was a road racer in France. So far that is the best part of Ferrari ownership. I think I was turning over 5K RPM's at the very moment. I do really enjoy driving my car with the other local F-car guys. Following the TR is special but my favorite is the 512, the smells, the sounds, that flat carbureted 12 is magical. I'll never forget the first time I heard an F40. I would not be driving with this group in my Mazda truck so without the car I'd not have had these experiences.
Freeway entrance ramps and wide open through a tunnel. Theres no need for a radio. Music is'a right behind you. La Dolce Vita.
I'm not an expert on women but from what I read and observe if you show off your F-car women view it as an expression of insecurity in your own estimentation of your worth. i.e. you have doubts about yourself - which to a woman means you are not very successful with women so she needs to avoid you like a loser. Now if a woman learns by accident that the Corella is not your only car and you track your 430 most every weekend, shaving a hundreth second off the lap time each visit - she will just melt.
In almost 3 years of ownership, I've had exactly ONE woman seem interested in my car. ONE. However, if I were of a mind to attract 18 - 28 year old MEN, NO PROBLEM!!! Speaking only for a 328 GTS, Ferrari's in my experience are INVISIBLE to women. Not that I care, as I'm happily married and not looking. Jedi
Honestly, having owned both Ferraris and a Lamborghini, I don't think Ferrari ownership really attracts the women. With a Ferrari, they think you are rich. With a Lamborghini, they think you are ridiculously rich and must be "important" (rock star, athlete, etc) even when the car is worth less than the Ferrari it is being compared to. I have found that women come out of the woodwork for the Lambo. I have had 30-somethings pull over at the end of my driveway and get out and walk up to see the car parked in the driveway (when my wife was home). I had a hot girl (probably 25) at a winery ask me three different ways to "take her out" just last weekend. They aren't all ones you'd take home to mom but dad would give them a good once-over as they came though the door.
You guys have probably already seen this study. Study: Women Aroused by Big Engines Bad news, Prius owners. According to a new study, women are attracted by a big motor. Literally. No, no double entendre there. The study was actually about engines. And apparently, it's not a car's ostentatious price tag or its sleek body work, but the rumble of a big V8 that gets their motors running. The U.K.'s Telegraph explains, "A study tested men's and women's responses to the roaring engines of three luxury cars, in addition to an everyday vehicle." Participants listened to the engines of a Maserati, a Ferrari, a Lamborghini and a Volkswagen Polo (a small car sold in Europe -- think of a smaller Rabbit). Researchers then drew a saliva sample from the subjects and tested it for the presence of testosterone -- "a hormone which indicates arousal." The results? "One hundred per cent of female participants had a significant increase in testosterone secretion" after listening to the roar of the big Maserati, while the wheeze of the Polo's four-cylinder "actually led to a decreased level of testosterone." If anything could reverse the trend toward smaller cars, this would be it. Study author and psychologist David Moxon told UPI, "The roar of a luxury car engine does cause a primeval physiological response." That response, in fact, was stronger in women than in men. Only about half of the men showed a marked increase in arousal after listening to the Maserati engine that turned on all of the women. Autoblog was surprised that "it's not the sexy curves of a Lamborghini, Maserati or Ferrari" that turn women on, but rather "it's actually the loud sound of their engines revving." We're not entirely sure on that point. From what we've seen, we doubt a Sentra with a burned-out glass pack muffler to boost the engine's sound actually attracts the ladies. But the study wasn't conducted outside a high school. Edmunds Inside Line points out that this Hiscox (not touching it) insurance company, and notes "why the insurance company wanted to know this is another story." The look on other faces when you come into view, that's why I need a decent exhaust ... to increase their smiles !!!!!!!!!
I guess a feeling that you take a small part of "something" special. A good reminder that you are privileged in life. The looks and sounds/drives rock as well!
