I'm sorry, and I apologize up front here, but that *must* be very close to being the most ridiculous post I've ever seen. :)

    - *If* my car was faster, I would'a beaten him!
    - *If* my engine hadn't malfunctioned I would'a beaten him.
    - *If*, *maybe*, woulda, coulda, shoulda, has *always* determined the champions.

    F1's a boring spec series though. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

While that could be the case, there is also the scenario in which Alonso is a DNF and then the fight is back on between the two RB drivers. And RedBull/Mateschitz/Horner want "the next Schumacher" as their champion and not an "unknown" Australian who is about to retire.

I'm not dissing Webber here, but he has close to zero marketing appeal for RedBull. It is Vettel they want to be their champion. It all reminds me of 1999 after Silverstone when the Scuderia basically gave up the WDC and only an act of God (aka LdM) righted the ship. But at that point it had already taken on too much water.

Mateschitz is a hypocrite when he says RB puts the sport above the WDC. That's RedBull_****. The only reason they're not using team orders is because their fav boy is not the one in the lead.

There is a fine line between performance and reliability. If they had a more reliable engine, it might be slower. It's the risk you take.

Maybe I've been wrong for over 25 years and the teams really don't give a fnck about the WDC after all ... ?

Maybe, Pete, which is funny considering that most people couldn't give a hoot about the WCC and only remember the driver's title.

Yes, but remember that Bandini wasn't going to let Surtees bu until Forghieri, Rocchi etc. jumped the pitwall and flagged Bandini down...so I don't know that Lorendo rammed Hill on purpose.

Don't remember that bit, but you may be right.

This is why, in my view, WDCs don't all have the same value.

It's the way they were won that matters to me.

And I respect more some drivers who never won the championship than others who won it because they had such a technical advantage or benefited from team orders, etc...

    Statistics aren't the full story!

And that's the thread right there.

The entire thing is so that if Vettel has to let Webber by it as if he decided on his own accord

Just to add that if Alonso is out, Vettel wins, Webber second, then Vettel is champion.
Equal on points with Webber but one more win.

So how many WDCs should we deduct from Schumacher's record as a result of intentional shunts and conceited victories by all of Schumachers teamates?

I think it really is the opposite of what you stated for Red Bull, its the same as you stated for Ferrari. That is why Red Bull won the WCC, and does not appear to care if its drivers win the WDC.

I think Ferrari would be the same if the situation was reversed, but it would at least put on a better show for its drivers.

At this point, Ferrari can salvage its season by helping its driver win the WDC. But back home at the factory, they are pissed about the WCC. That is where the $$ is.

MS clinched his first world championship by crashing into Damon Hill shortly after he had damaged his own car. Why was a driver of a seriously damaged car on the racing line let alone trying to get the apex?

He tried to win his third title by deliberately crashing into Jacques Villeneuve. This was a move so blatant and so expected the TV commentary anticipated it.

He tried to push Hakkinen on to the grass going up the hill at Spa at close to 200mph.

He put Alonso on the grass at similar speeds on the hangar straight at Silverstone.

When he was at Benetton and traction control was banned his car was found to have traction control and launch control still in the software. This required numerous controls to be chosen in sequence to access them. The FIA said it could not prove that he used the system. He cannot prove he did not and there are many who believe rightly or wrongly that he did.

This is the man who is so kind and thoughtful according to his fans but thought nothing of shoving his own brother as well as numerous others into the pitwall.

Then off course we have other incidents like his little fake accident at Monaco.

Love how Webber was told to slow up due to engine overheating issues that mysteriously rectified themselves when Vettel opened up the gap....oh wait, there's no team orders at RB.
    Sorry, my bad.....

Agree with you: what he says sounds good and it is a good opportunity for him to take a stab at Ferrari, but somehow I believe his real feelings and motives are rather different.

Must have been tough being a British McLaren fanboy to see MS dominate all those years. The haters bring up the conroversies, the record books show 7 titles. Wah wah wah...

Anyway, you still (not surprisingly) didn't being up any races other than Austria '02 where a win was gifted to MS. I'm not saying there weren't more but MS haters act like there are lots when in reality they could be counted on one hand since MS was far quicker than any teammate he ever had during his title years. He also gave away two sure wins to teammates (Irvine in Malaysia 1999 and Rubens at Indy in 03).

EDIT: Was just thinking how the man has started in 268 races, with most of them being at the top level of the sport involved in a championship fight. Of course there will be controversies with a career that long battling for titles almost every year, just look at the drama that has unfolded this year among the front runners including (OMG) team orders.

Because he always ensured his team mates sncked.

Funny how now that he has no play in selecting his team mate he is getting beaten. Interesting.

There were many races where Ferrari played team tactics to ensure MS benefited, but as Ferrari were after the WDC in those days that made sense.

MS was at his best in 94 to 2002. The '94 Adelaide GP was one of the best races I have ever seen, both MS and DH were on another level, until MS fell off and then drove back on to the track in a broken car. I don't in this case think he did this to cause an accident, I think he was trying to get it back to the pits ... but I was naive about MS's "I must win at all costs attitude" back then.

Sorry, but Steve is right on the money.

MS has no greater fan than me, but your personal insults towards Steve are unwarranted and totally off base.

Schumi was and is a hard core competitor. He was always a team player though, and never threw the team under the bus that I can recall. He doesn't need any excuses made for him and his legacy and records stand on their own.

Dismissing criticism of it as being based in "McLaren fanboys" or "haters" is silly, though.
