Hey, Another quick poll. I dunno the details, but apparently if you want any Bernie-Dollars you had better score at least a single point.... If you don't I believe you get zero. Now, while there's been some *serious* vitriol, hatred and nastiness towards the noobs over the year (some possibly justified) at least they made it to the grid and all the way thru' the season - IIRC, some here said they wouldn't. Personally, I'd like to see 'em all back next year. Sure, they get in the way but I think it's been a pretty interesting battle back there and would love to see 'em improve. To that end, I reckon a few $M from Bernie is gonna help them a lot more than the big guys - Personally, I'd like to see all 3 of 'em score - What say you? Cheers, Ian Multiple choices are allowed....
I say let them all score; makes for any competitive endeavor more exciting when more are fighting for the top. Now if you asked who deserves to score points, well then my answer would be different.
+1 Good point - I guess I'd leave HRT out, but even that seems harsh - I'd actually like to see their CFD-only approach pay back for 'em - Say, the midfield - It's gotta take balls (and/or a lack of $!) to stand up and say "we're doing it in the 'puter". While 3-4 seconds is an eternity in F1 terms, they haven't exactly disgraced themselves versus the other noob's [Most of the time at least....] Cheers, Ian
And the others should go? OK. However, your comment got me thinking (!) - Is that really true? They *should* be the best given their jockeys.... Anyway, I came up with the "Ian formula for who sucks least": - Everyone scores a number of points = to their final classification [If you DNS, you got 24 points.] - We're therefore looking for the lowest total...... After 8 races: 1 - Lotus 304 2 - Virgin 306 3 - HRT 309 After 13 races: 1 - Lotus 487 2 - Virgin 492 3 - HRT 506 Now: 1 - Lotus 625 2 - Virgin 639 3 - HRT 649 So, it seems "our" collective "gut feeling" is about right. But, it's damn close! I'd really like to see 'em all score points this weekend. Cheers, Ian
None of them are worthy. The Loti may pull at the heartstrings but as the best of the Mosley Squadron, they remain Q1 fodder. I never enjoyed the Jim Clark trophy machines, this is more of the same...... Call me a traditionalist, I prefer awarding only the top 6 with points. Those minnows who managed to eek out a point or two throughout the season in days past were well deserved. This lot hasn't managed to break one free from 10 finishing positions nor make it into Q2 on even an infrequent basis. I have just the guy who sums it up....... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Points need to be awarded to the bottom of the field Nascar style. Not giving financial assistance to the ones who need it most is a sure way to kill the gene pool. One more box needed in the poll; All of them.
Yup, the problem with F1 is that its not enough like NASCAR BTW I think Darwin would disagree with your second point.
I hear you, and somewhat agree. But do you want them back next year? Sounds like you wouldn't miss them and would like 'em gone? Indeed.... I can argue that one both ways. However, they are "rookies" and will hopefully improve next year. The days of Wolf and the like winning their debut GP are long gone - F1 is *hard*, and you've got to serve your time at the back. To that end, I personally would like to see 'em get some Bernie-$..... Cheers, Ian PS - Is, PM me the delivery address for your wine!.....
100% agree. Without the new teams, I think F1 would become a 4 team 3 cars each merry go round. Totally boring. People forget that at one time, most every team was new. If a new Ken Tyrrell showed up today, would people treat him with the same disrespect? Hopefully not. The new teams are the lifeblood of the sport. If in 5 years, they are still at the back, only then should it be suggested they consider moving on to the IRL.
No, no and thrice no! How the hell do you deserve even a single point for coming last!? Maybe Sir Dickie, Fernandez & whoever's running HRT (?) are the new Ken Tyrell - It's up to them to haul themselves up the results and score points. How far back should points be awarded? As noted, I can argue for "tradition" (only the top 6) or this new fangled top 10 system. But, certainly no lower than that IMO. Cheers, Ian
By chance, you don't think this Lotus team is the same as the one Colin Chapman started, do you? The only thing in common is they bought the name for the F1 team. As far as points, IMO, if you TRAVEL to all the races then you deserve TRAVEL money, points or no points, you fill the grid, and you give seats to the up and coming drivers that are the future of the sport (in some cases).
The newbies need F1 more than F1 needs the newbies. If Ferrari didn't show up viewership and attendance would suffer. If HRT missed a race who'd even notice. 90% of racing is not just showing up. Sorry Woody.
Hi Ian, No problem and thank you for the offer but I thought you wanted to go double or nothing on Schumacher in 2011 ? As for teams returning, the more the merrier. I loved the pre-qualifying days and await in vain for their return. But feed these oompa loompas unearned points ? No. They applied to race, if they can't afford to run without a subsidy from Bernie, bounce 'em . Hey Whisk, I know it's a Rollex team, but the colours look nice and I'm hoping we'll see the return of a faux Motor Racing Developments Team next...
Are you *sure* I said that? OK, let's let it ride next year - I'm not nearly as confident as I was early this year, but that didn't work out too well...... [As noted before, you certainly recognized the young lads talent ahead of me - He is a *lot* quicker than I expected.] +1 [Although, I was At Surtees in those days and not making the grid *sucked*!....] Incidentally, has anyone checked if any of the noob's would have been excluded this season under the 107% rule? Cheers, Ian
Unfortunately not - I was actually with them for (most of) the 78 season - Rupert Keegan (a James wannabe) and Vittorio Brambilla were the jockeys. [VB was a nice guy, and not too bad. Plus, I'm pretty sure he bought the "Beta Utensili" money to the table....] No money, no fresh engines, and almost no food! We used to watch Colin & Mario swapping engines every session it seemed - We'd have loved to have the opportunity! Cheers, Ian
