I thought this might spark and interesting discussion. What current or recently retired players would you say are possible, but not certain, HOF inductees? Guys like a Favre and Peyton will be easy first-balloters, but how about...

    Donovan McNabb
    Kurt Warner
    Tyrell Owens
    Randy Moss
    Priest Holmes

Just a few that pop into my head. Many, many more that could be in the hall someday, but not for certain.

McNabb and Holmes are no. McNabb was a consistently above average QB on a good team. Holmes has 2 or 3 good years.

Warner, Owens, and Moss are easily in.

Couple names I throw in the air: Jason Witten, Kerry Collins, Dwight Freeney, Brian Urlacher, Shaun Alexander, Edgerrin James, Torry Holt, Larry Allen, Ed Reed, Champ Bailey.

    I agree with this.

Jason Witten....maybe. Good, but is he HoF worthy at the end of his career?

FWIW, it's gonna be a packed few years for the HOF entrance but these guys will get in 1st ballot and/or early in their eligibility years...

    {recently retired & soon-to-be eligible, will be HOF'ers}
    Jerome Bettis ('11 eligibility)
    Curtis Martin ('11 eligibility)
Marshall Faulk ('11 eligibility) -> 1st ballot HOF
Deion Sanders ('11 eligibility) -> 1st ballot HOF

Kurt Warner ('14 eligibility?) -> 1st ballot HOF
    Junior Seau ('14 eligibility?)

    {currently playing but in latter parts of their careers, will be HOF'ers}
    LaDanian Tomlinson
    Larry Fitzgerald
    T.O.
    Ed Reed
    Randy Moss
    Tony Gonzalez
    Hines Ward
Ray Lewis -> 1st ballot HOF
Peyton Manning -> 1st ballot HOF
Tom Brady -> 1st ballot HOF
Brett Favre -> 1st ballot HOF

Current players like Big'Ben, well give him one more Super Bowl win, he's in the HOF. And it's worth keeping an eye on guys like Andre Johnson, Adrian Peterson, DeMarcus Ware, Reggie Wayne, Chad Ochocinco, Troy Polamalu, Brian Urlacher, Dwight Freeney, Champ Bailey, Drew Brees (another NFL MVP & S.B. win will help), Charles Woodson, Antonio Gates.

Recent/past players like Walter Jones, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Criss Carter, Andre Reed, Orlando Pace, Isaac Bruce will eventually get in I'd think.

Past guys like Dermontti Dawson, Shannon Sharpe should already be in the HOF.

Warner is a 1st ballot HOF'er. T.O. & Moss are also likely 1st ballot HOF'ers unless their behavior/demeanor holds them back a year or two before they head to Canton.

McNabb is also an eventual HOF'er. It gets tricky for him as Steve "Air" McNair will get a lot of sympathy/nostalgic attention from the election committee early'on when he becomes eligible. Both will get in the HOF, I believe.

Priest Holmes is not gonna get there anytime soon. He'll sit next to Terrell Davis & others waiting & waiting. . .

Guys like Tim Brown aren't in the HOF. And only recently did Art Monk get in. So, I don't see stats-savvy players like Jason Witten & Wes Welker getting in the HOF easily. Not to mention for the former, the TE position is damn tough for the HOF w/ studs like Shannon Sharpe still waiting & eventually Tony Gonzalez & others being eligible (Antonio Gates, etc).

If Jay Novacek gets in, then we can think about Witten, but Witten has not really done anything at all to deserve it, he has not carried a team on his back like Gates has.

If he stays out of trouble and performs at Pro Bowl levels for the next 10 years, then yes. That is what it will take to have some of the voters look past his prior issues.

What interests me: Randy Moss' acceptance speech. Will be interesting. I am sure Belichek will introduce him.

I don't see Hines Ward as a Hall of Famer, a few Pro Bowls and that's it.
Fitzgerald still needs a few more good years.

Tony Romo? I think if he continues to play at this level for a few more years and gets some playoff success he has an outside chance.

I didn't even think about Romo. He is a solid QB but doesn't seem to be able to take the Cowboys to real contention. If he was able to win a SB or two in Dallas, or moved eventually to another team and then won, maybe. Otherwise I don't think so.

Here are a couple of other names:
    Edgerrin James
    Eddie George
    Ray Lewis
    Larry Fitzgerald

    James - probably not.
George - meh - probably not also.

    Ray and Fitz will be.

When Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson get in, then you can talk Romo.
Well, no you can't, not until Romo does what Dilfer and Johnson did.
