I would also be in favor of not showing the top thread of the F1 section on the main forum list. Problem solved.

But it amazes me how people are so desperate to start threads with results in the titles, like it's going to give them an internet merit badge for being the first one to post. Yay you're so amazing.

They are probably the same people who talk loudly on their cell phones in public places, have no regard for others on the road, think everyone should have THEIR point of view...

I don't get it. What is SO difficult about not putting spoilers in thread titles. Can someone explain to me this driving need to be able to spoil in titles? I just don't get it. What are you being deprived of? Will being able to spoil in thread titles somehow improve your quality of life?

Why are you guys whinging like a bunch of crybabies?

I should be able to go into the F1 forum itself and discuss next year's rules without being spoiled by the result of the previous Grand Prix.

I just don't get it. It is such a small thing to show respect for your fellow F-Chatters by keeping spoilers inside the thread, what is the problem?

It's not like anyone's asking these inconsiderate folk not to post - Anyone can post anything they want, just not in the damn thread title.

    "How hard can it be?"

    Cheers,

    There's no whining to it...

Lightguy brought up a valid topic of discussion to get a CURRENT feeling for everyone's feelings towards posting race-related info without it being a spoiler after an acceptable timeframe.

These are 2 possibilities...After the Wednesday or the Friday after the race; content can be outside of spoiler threads

Whether this extends to thread titles as well is a good point...

There is no right or wrong to this issue, just merely a forum discussion...

What do you mean "extends to"? Titles are the only place spoilers aren't allowed on F-Chat. The discussion starts and ends at thread titles.

You don't even have to put "SPOILERS" in the thread title! People do it simply because it is the respectful thing to do, but the only thing said in the rule is "do not post race results in subject lines".

While it is inconsiderate to spoil race results in threads on subjects other than F1 (example: Mentioning who won the GP in a P&R thread about Obama), something that has bitten me in the past, it isn't against the rules.

As far as I know there is no rule about discussing spoilers in threads covering the general subject being spoiled, so we're left only with spoilers in thread titles being the discussion in this thread.

Actually to be honest with you I am impressed at how disciplined most of our posters are, all things considered.

I believe the few that get through are more of the "oops" variety where the poster feels immediate remorse...

I believe overall our forum abides by the rules VERY well... JMHO.

I've had 6 races and 1 championship spoiled in 3 years of membership. Not a bad record at all considering how many types of racing is discussed here. All but one of these was in thread titles and none of them were F1.

Our membership is very good about it, and our moderators are blindingly quick to cover things when our members make a mistake.

Yes agreed, However personally I would not log on news black out TV/radio/internet the lot, if I didn't want to know the result, its tricky but can be done, even a phone call can spoil it.

Most cases are innocent ones, but they are the ones that get you.

It's very, very, simple: DO NOT POST SPOILERS IN THREAD TITLES.

Beyond that, do WTF you want.

Personally, I'd laugh if he got banned... he doesn't give the year and that thread title is a race result and the rule is no race results in thread titles...

The same thought had crossed my mind :D

AFAIK, there is no statute of limitations on the rule - Don't post spoilers in thread titles.

    Ban him! :)

While I don't really understand the spoiler rule I am happy enough to obey it because, as has already been stated, it doesn't actually stop anything being discussed. You just have to be careful what you put in the title. I didn't see Sunday's race live so I made sure the radio was switched off when I was in the car, I didn't open emails on my phone and I got my wife to read any text messages that arrived before letting me see them. When I met anyone I knew I told them straight away that I hadn't seen the race and I didn't want to know or have a clue what happened. I certainly didn't go on the internet.
I watched the race on Sunday evening without knowing the result. That was the latest I could have watched it though as I knew people would want to discuss it with me on Monday morning at work.
I'm not sure how it is possible to last until Wednesday after a race without learning the result, but I suppose that's no argument for allowing spoilers.

Could be worse, at least I didn't make a bet unlike Dick Branson:

Lotus team Finished 10th and Branson made a bet with Air Asia chief Tony Fernandes that he would beat him.

The result is Dickie has to squeeze into a red stewardess uniform and serve drinks aboard Fernandes, London-Kulala Lumpur service, all for good causes though..:)
