Just got home from a great few days of being Hanger-On, again, to Goober at the F-car National Rally. Firstly, thanks for Goober putting up with us in his cars yet again. The newly acquired 246 really is a treat, perfect for fun on todays speed restricted roads. Also there were no rattles, thumps, clunks, float or vibrations evident at all over the observation run route. It just makes all the right noises and smells, and looks good too.

The concours day was fun too. Anyone have any spare Japanese Stanley headlights, Lucas 700 or plain old Lucas sealed beam units to fit a 308GTB? Seems like they are what are needed to score max points instead of original Carellos :). Plenty of nice machinery on show. Fave car for me on the day was the dark blue 330 GT, a lovely car, nice and discreet, and one that certainly puts the G and T in Grand Touring!

And as already discussed above, today was the track day. I experimented using a pit board and hand timing of the laps, I recorded a best time of 1:17.2 for Goober, 1:25.2 for Brett and 1:30.1 for Moretti. Official times varied around these, also minor variations (+ and -)between the official and unofficial times was noticed by other crews. And well done to Goober for FTD Runner-Up to the winning 430 Scuderia, with a 1.3 second improvement over the day from his previous personal best lap time.

After all the fun of the last few days, I just got totally confused by the presentation dinner. Perhaps I missed something, or they do things differently from other marque meet presentations. But there were two presentations for, presumably and I'm happy to be corrected, FTD award for a 355/360, and a second 360 award (as a sole model) awarded to one person with a time of 1:25.x, when Goober had achieved a 1:17.x time in his 360. I'm just confused in when is a 360 not a 360??

Overall though, a great few days with decent weather too. Nice also to put a few faces to names. Snaps to follow when my subscription is processed, that is if F-chat allows non-F-car owners to subscribe.

Obviously Duncan won FTD and the 430 class, if there was one. I don't know who he is, but boy he can drive.
Also obvious is that if there was a competition class, then Goober won that. good effort to be 3/10ths slower than a car with over 100hp more! (both on "R" specs)

Concours? Told you! Judges just don't know what they're looking at. I heard they were saying that Brett's car was wrong because it had a steel engine lid. It was pointed out to them that it wasn't a fibreglass model and this surprised them.

There is no way in hell they'd have understood the intricacies of what makes goober's GTB the best in the country.

That is a bit harsh Brenton, as it happens, you know my wheels with slicks didn't fit, I ran with my road tyres, albeit corsa, which were what I used at the last Qld national rally track day 15 months ago, & have done 5000kms since, my time of 1.16.98, see attached, I thought wasn't too bad.

Given Duncan had brand new Pirelli Trofeo which he brought in especially from England as they are unavailable here in Australia and they are the new replacement to the Corsa Race & would have to be at least half a second + faster than a 15 month old Corsa, my time which was only 0.2 sec behind and a little over 0.2 sec ahead of yours, I reckon is not such a 'capt slow' time :)

And your right the organisers did mess up, my time should have been given runner up FTD, but I didn't want to seem like sour grapes so I just let it go and didn't kick up a stink about my time actually being second.

PS Anyone know how to get this file showing here instead of an attachment.

PPS It was a great rally, great to catch up with everyone and meet knew people :)

It was great to catch up with everyone once again, and to meet new people and put faces to names, it was great to be able to help out a couple of people with some local knowledge, and to see all the great cars in attendance and to see some on the track

seriously, how did you do that?

in the previous session goober was definitely pulling away from you and you were visibly slower in the corner near the grandstands....lack of grip was obvious....so what did you do different in the last session?

Millard's time wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (for once)...considering his car is down 140hp compared to a scud of similar weight, his slicks were 10 years old and he's 105!

I stopped over driving compared to the previous session, got smoother again..... & as we all know that is faster :)

I also thought John's time was quick, he was flat & fast through the kink.

oh...and another thing...your tyres would have to be at least 2 seconds a lap (maybe more) slower than the tyres on Duncan's scud...so bloody good effort by you!

You did a 1:16.98 on road tyres and FTD was 1:16.8 on R-specs (both 430 Scuds)?

Mammoth effort.... bloody well done, Pete! :)

pete... i was taking the p!ss.

one thing i didnt understand was that you, Duncan and I got thrown into the "modified" class..............how is a 430 Scuderia modified, how is a 360ch modified?

and as for the Tom warwick trophy going to a standard 360 makes a mockery of the award.....like two years ago it was won by a 360NGT, last year JM's 355ch (possibly the best 355ch in aust)

was awesome to meet pete and JM...............and to see moretti again!!

    second best.

yeah..I've won that Tom trophy too. it's for the fastest 355/360 and modified, not modified, challenge GT3 etc etc..has nothing to do with it.

    oh well...it's just a trophy.

who won the ron davis trophy?

Yep. The guy who ordered a Scuderia's 355CH is the best.

yeah...and only 2.5 seconds a lap slower than mine!

i already feel sorry for whoever buys that car. it's been on the market over a year now. maybe its condition isn't such a secret.
