I hope someome can clarify for me what the approximate settlement/buying price would be on a F40 versus what the advertised 'asking price' is for that same car?
Would there generally be a big dollar difference, or would it be close to the advertised price in todays market?
Have prices on F40's flattened out, or is there more likelyhood of increases/decreases in the next 12 months?
Any responses from the USA, Europe or the UK would be appreciated.

Others will chime in, BUT there is an ever widening spectrum of "condition" on these cars, and at the top of the heap, low mileage, current serviced, last year examples might not have a lot of spread....the owners know what they have.....

Joe will be along to weigh in!!

Two examples, at our Houston Party this past weekend...... and that was not all of them in town, by any means....

Check out the thread 'F40 quotation' a few days ago about genuine trading prices & condition and also 'F40 mileage' a few days before that

I think it is impossible to treat the car as a commodity, at least in the US, as there were only 211 US versions made and not all of those exist or are available in the US. The liquidity crisis that drove exotic car prices down in 2008 is over IMO, so you can forget about a "distressed" sale, absent some kind of very unusual circumstances.

In short, there just are not enough sales out there that any scientific market value an be assigned, IMO. Ranges, perhaps, but to say a particular car can be had at $400K, $500K or whatever is not reaistic. It is not exactly a 355 of which there are thousands to compare and typically 50-100 for sale at any given time.

I think just as important as the intrinsic condition of the car is the personal circumstances and motivation of the buyer and seller. For example, my car is always for sale at a price that is enough to get me to part with it, but not advertised as I am not going to spend time marketing someting I am also not anxious to sell. I bet most owners are like-minded. The car is magnificent and I'd have to get enough money for it to make me willing to lose the ability to enjoy something so spectacular.

    This again!

Take anything that's been said recently and firm those numbers up. The trouble is that owners of good cars are less motivated to sell and the pool of well-kept cars that comes available is diminished.

I'll ask Big George Foreman next time I see him, Matress Mac still has his, AFAIK......

Dunno where GFO found his example....

Mr. Risi hardly ever uses his LM....

Matress Mac's F40 is now well-sorted mechanically courtesy of Risi, but it could use a cosmetic refurbishment. Last I heard plans were afoot to have this handled, after having the car on the market for a period without success.

Big George's F40 came courtesy of Risi I think. He is unlikely to be a seller under any circumstances!

Thanks for your input guys, it was much appreciated. My quest for the right F40 continues and my journey will be pleasant, believe me.
