I can second Wash U as my daughter will be applying for next year. Great campus and lots of opportunity. Her major will be Chemistry.

Well, as far as midwest, for Biochem, U Wisconsin is tops. Of course, we should exclude Cal schools and those in Mass/CT.

Genetics: Iowa State U, and Univ of Utah. Also, Wayne State in Detroit. Incidentally, Iowa State is (was, at least, a while back) #1in Analytical Chem.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey,
Regarding Biochem, I would definitely endorse Wisconsin-Madison. They have a very good biology program. I just graduated, and now I'm in medical school and I can say that they prepared me well. The nicest thing about going to Madison is that they have lots of new labs including a brand new one fronted by James Thompson- who is Mr. stem cell. I think they are one of the top three schools for basic science funding. So, if she wants to go to grad school, it's easy to get into respected labs which can help her resume. Good luck!
