Hi all!!! I just picked up my Yellow 1999 360 Modena last week. I'm learning the stick and clutch as there is clearly a learning curve involved, but I'm in LOVE!!! What is everyone's opinion on a clear bra for the front? I had one on my previous sports car and liked it a lot. Is it OK for the Ferrari? Is there an etiquette issue? Thanks! -Matt
Definitely and they Now offer full coverage so there's no way you can even tell it's on there. Yellow by the way is one of the bat colors out there to promote the transparency of the film. Do you homework and find a person who is reputable.
I have used Lamin-X brand on all my cars with great results. Go to their website to find a dealer/installer in your area. www.lamin-x.com
Depending on the quality of the work. I know white is a bad color for clear bra, but it's really not noticeable on my Yellow F430. Quality of work matters, so find a good reputable company.
I recently got a clear bra for my 360. It is outstanding. All seams are hidden and it is nearly impossible to detect its presence at any distance if done well by experienced pros. I have seen some Ferraris with peppered front bumpers and hoods which look terrible. Personally, I can't understand how so many people talk down clear bras and yet they are ok with rock chips in their bumpers, fenders, and hoods. They always say they would rather just get the bumper resprayed. Funny thing is, I don't see anyone respraying their bumpers, hoods, fenders, and lower air intakes on a regular basis so I guess they just live with the rock chips.
Go with 3M film. It is the only film on the market that can be polished if you get any scratches on it.
I've never put a bra on any of my cars. I don't like the look. The line at it's cleanest would bother me more than a tiny ding on the bumper that I'm not looking at every time I get in or out. I'd rather touch up the occasional chip.
I have 3M clear bras on both of my F cars and think it's a must. Factory Ferrari paint chips so easy that you really need one.
41,000 miles. No chips. Little line. Portland puts gravel on the roads as soon as the weather starts to get bad.
have c/b my entire F car, 3 times. black, red and gregio, on the black you can just see an edge, the red and grey, i would have to point it out. the black only really shows up when the car is dusty, the dust "clings" to the edge. i would not even consider NOT doing it again. got a terrible "smear" on hood, actually saw the rock coming and impact the car. simple fix, peel it up and, installed a new piece of c/b, problem solved for $300.00. i have elite clear bra on my cars cal
There are no lines when you do full coverage. There are no seams on the visible surfaces so there are no lines. When people talk about visible lines, they are talking about less expensive applications where partial hood coverage is done or cheap kits with cutouts around the lights and badges.
Exactly...a custom application with an experienced installer vs pre-cut film truly makes it essentially invisable.
I never like the lines in the past. Since 4 yrs ago, I've had all of my cars done custom by a very reputable company. Probably the best known in their field and let me say this. It's true when people say that it's invisible when you gte the right guys doing it for you. I've had all of my cars done by Premier in Fremont and even I cannot tell it's on the car. Put 7k miles on the F430 and not one chip. Give them a call if you're in California. Site is www.premiermobilegroup.com
OK, So a custom application with the official 3M clear bra product on the entire front of the car up to (but obviously not including) the windshield, windshield sills and doors should be covered... No seams, all protected. Sounds good! Done and done (quoted and scheduled)! -Matt
For professional installs they begin at 2k and can go up to even 5 K if you'd like your entire car done.
A mate of mine had his 430 covered with Lamin-X. A very good product coz we went on a road trip up North, where most supercar owners would shiver even at the thought of it due to the splashing of stone chips along the way (no kidding, this route is really really bad). The 430 had the entire bonnet, windscreen, lights, roof, sides to the intakes covered with Lamin-X and after a day of blasting up and down, we checked the results and found the film had bore the brunt of the abuse. There wasn't any visible paint damage and more important, the windscreen and light covers survived. Personally I agree Yellow is the best colour to try this lamination product on. On Red, it kinda shows and distrupts the shine of the car. Mind you, its no typical lamination film. It's really thick!
I covered full front end: bumper, fenders including headlights, full hood and mirrors plus the rocker panels.
