Its hard not to respect this guy as a leader. Listening to him on the radio and how he interacts with Jimmie Johnson, how his calls virtually are never wrong and most importanly how he wins.

Personally, there is no doubt in my mind he can call a race equally as good as anyone in F1. How many team managers in F1 have screwed up during the season, plenty. You're going to tell me Domenicali is some genius or Whitmarsh. If anything Knaus reminds me a bit of Ross Brawn.

I don't think Chad is interested in F1 per se, but nobody has approached him either.

no-while he's a great team leader, he doesn't understand F1 and would get eaten alive by the politics. Look what happened to Bobby Rahal...and Rahal is much more Machiavellian than Knaus.

I am surprised someone hasn't offered Knaus a huge deal to run their NASCAR team. he must have an ironclad contract with Hendrick.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. Take Joe Gibbs for example, the guy wins 3 Super Bowls in the NFL and then goes into a totally different sport and wins championships in Nascar. Some people are just winners and can take that to any sport. I believe Chad is one of those guys. I don't see Domincali or Martin Whitmarsh coming to Nascar and winning 5 straight titles, do you? To a point made earlier, politics in F1 are more on a global scale, but there are no more even keel guys than Chad.

That's really an asinine statement. I personally don't care for NASCAR, but to make a statement like that is pretty ignorant. I grew up around the sport and know enough to know its not as simple as it looks.

I have to wonder if it's not the team. Chad is a very important part, but pair him with Jimmy Johnson and you may have a winning formula. Just like Ray Everham and Jeff Gordon. So long as they were together they won races. As soon as Ray left neither one of them had the success like they had when they were together.

Anyway why would Chad want to leave NASCAR when he's made a name for himself and go to a series that he could quite possibly fall on his face at?

Obviously, a lot of success in NASCAR is down
to the chemistry between driver and crew chief.

But, even in the ultra successful Hendrick team
(aside from Johnson-Knaus) they seem to be
constantly tinkering with their crew chief lineups
    as reported on Autosport today.

Since switching to Hendrick, how many crew chiefs
has Earnhardt, Jr. been through? Jr's switch
to Hendrick was supposed to have resulted in
immedaite, multiple championships and it hasn't
    quite worked out that way.

Also, what was the deal with Hendrick putting
Jeff Gordin's pit crew on Johnson's car in one of
the final races. That seemed to be a pretty clear
indication that no one on this superteam is
    indespensible.

Chad is great at what he does...he does Nascar. Not saying that Nascar is not one of the top levels of motorsports, but I'm not sure people realize the level of F1. It goes way beyond making a car fast.
Bringing Chad over to F1 because he is good at what he does would be like bringing the guy who won the PBR ( Pro Bull Riding) title to coach football.
...Chad has a great relationship with his teammates...at the end of the day this is what drives people to help him accomplish his goals...If you brought Chad, you would need him to bring all his resources...and then you would need to teach them all about F1.
I just can't see this ever happening...not even a discussion.
I'm not down playing how good Chad is, again, he is great at what he does, just trying to add some perspective to things.

I agree, the politics are waaay over his -and most others- heads.
Chad signed a new contract a year ago rumored to be in 7 figures, and his stipulation
is he is done (with racing) when that contract is up. 3-4 years. He explained it's not all fun and games, it really wears a person out, and 3-4 more years (whatever it was) is about all he can take.
    GOOD for him!

    Grow up.

Comparing Knaus to Gibbs is like apples and oranges, Gibbs' is much more polished in the boardroom, in the business world, and where Chad is pretty smart and laid-back, I doubt he has the REAL business savvy that Gibbs does. Nowhere close.
Chad's thing is running a team in the garage and on the track, not running the whole show.

Just look at all the Head Coaches in the NFL that are in way over their heads, their schtick is to be offensive or defensive coordinators, not head coaches. Singletary, Crennel, Lewis, and even Haley, Lovie Smith, WADE PHILLIPS, BRAD CHILDRESS come to mind.
