Ok so while watching the new top gear they raced the Lamborghini Lp570,Balboni and SV. They raced the 3 cars on a standing mile, at different times, and then came back with there top speeds. The Balboni did 173(suprised me but understandable) the SV did 175 and then the new superleggera did 180. I know it is lighted but how did a car with 100 less hp beat the SV??? Then on top of the the Viper ACR beat the SV and superleggera on the track by nearly a second. This is so confusing to me! Can someone provide an explanation or are they just doing this for TV???
the ACR is a stupid fast car. It will probably outrun anything Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche makes on a road course. as to the Lambo's (as Faust mentioned) I suspect the Gallardo is much more aerodynamically efficient than the Murci, especially with that giant wing on the back.
I think it was due to there being three different drivers, with different skill levels. If it was only one driver over all three cars the results would have been different.
Well I think the different skill levels of the drivers was fairly evident and likely affected that top speed outcome. However, Im sure the ACR is faster around the track, that thing is stupid fast. I think it has the Nurbergring record, or is at least in the top 4 or 5. I know that it destroyed the Laguna Seca production car lap record.
wow... i think just the fact that 3 great italian cars were beat by an american car just killed it for me... that is rediculous... how did a 660 hp supercar lose to a 600 horsepower attempt at a supercar???
The Viper is a lot closer to a full out race car then any of the Lambos. It was a good episode though .
You're confusing Top Gear with a factual show about cars. That is called Fifth Gear, or more commonly, Boring.
hahaha yeah I've reasearched the ACR more and it definitely is a beast. The skill level is probably the thing that effected it most looking back. There is no way the superleggera would have won in a straight drag race!
SV lost to SL because it was driven by a mediocre driver apparently,as Tanner himself said on the show: "he short shifted again..."
Unless I missed something it looked like they were relying on the car's speedometers rather than sophisticated timing equipment. I'd buy the driving skill argument, except that the most proficient driver in the group was also the slowest.
On a track, the ACR is amazing. But to be entirely fair, I am pretty sure the ACR wears Pilot Sport Cup tires and I think those are better than what th eothers come with (unless one had Pzero Corsas). Only someone naive enough to think that price is proportional to perfomance thinks that a Lamborghini is the be all end all in terms of any performance category simply becasue it is expensive and exotic looking. I love my G, but it takes a back seat to the C6 Z06 (let alone ZR1) and Viper ACR
I questioned this too...Super Leggera faster top end than Murcie SV. A measured mile different launch technique Different "ball" sizes on the drivers in the braking zone. Big wing not adjusted on SV.
The whole show was rather amateurish imo. Also it looks like it was done on a small budjet. No GPS to validate speeds? Using a Lamborghini speedo which we all know has errors in them especially the faster you go. The Producers of the show did not make Helmets mandatory. Had one of the cars flipped like the Gallardo did running the Texas Mile a few weeks ago it would have been lights out for the driver.
I dont think it was a true standing mile. The sl shouldnt go 180 the ZR1 does mid 170's and 5mph is a decent amount of mph.
I think it says a lot that the Top Gear UK boys invited the Top Gear Australia boys to Britain for the Top Gear Ashes Special...
In the end what they should have done is brought the Stig out for this test. But to add another point they determined the best of the 3 purely off which went the fastest. This completely screwed the Balboni who everyone watching knew would go the slowest of the three. Although it is not my favorite it made the Balboni look bad and they should have just left it out of this challenge.
You guys are really getting worked up over a few MPH ? Seriously ? And yes the Viper ACR is stupid fast and will walk all those Italian cars.
I disagree. They should have left the Murci SV off the challenge and made it Battle Of The Gallardos, LP550-2 vs LP560-4 vs LP570-4 Superleggera.
Perhaps with a professional driver behind the wheel, but have a regular Joe drive the ACR, a Murci SV and the LP570SL on a track and they'll go faster in one of the Lamborghinis.
