    Does anyone have a favorite place to order the raw Waygu or Kobe from here? Not restaurant, but ranch...for home cooking!

    We have an ultra high-end place here in New Orleans called "Rare Cuts" that sells a variety Waygu cuts or other delicious delicacies.

    I've got my Truffle Salt ready...

    I'm also thinking of slicing up some rare cooked Waygu filets, searing some foie gras, and shaving some truffles to make the best po-boy ever created. It simply can't be stopped!

    Clicked on your link, and most of the articles cited are from June and earlier, but the more current articles indicate the outbreak in Miyazaki has been contained. It appears that the "epidemic" ran from March through June of this year. Still, any outbreak is serious business.

    Not sure how long one should wait to be considered on the safe side - six months? A year?

    Never had it, but if Thomas Keller uses their products in his restaurants, then it has to be pretty good.

    Thats how I learned about it. I have it at per se all the time and love it. I've ordered it several times when cooking at home and its always been really amazing.....of course that could just be due to my awesome cooking skills and not the meat ;)

    Snake River Farms is the best I've had. Morgan Ranch is good as prime, but not nearly as good as Snake River Farms.

    Buy the entire sealed strip loin if you can, and cut your own steaks off. Better thickness.

    Real kobe beef is hard to come by. You pretty much have to go to japan.

    They massage the cows with beer almost daily

    Pretty sure the cows drink the beer. Happier to be slaughtered that way I suppose.

    I'd terrified to grill a $75 steak at home, I can imagine trying to convince myself that I really like it overcooked.
