Replicas? Why not just call them what they are: counterfeits, knock-offs, fakes... At least so-called "homages" have enough respect to not mislabel themselves with trademarks they have no ethical or legal right to use.
Because you're paying Chinese parasites instead of the people that rightfully deserve payment for having created the design in the first place. Because a prevalence of Chinese counterfeits can hurt a firms brand equity by making their products appear to be over-abundant and nonexclusive. Lastly, because its illegal and represents the lowliest form of competition.
Troll...why did you come on this thread?....did you not read the title?....take your preaching to the P and R section. Beev
No, "troll" is about right. If you had bothered to read the thread from the beginning, you would find that your post is hardly the first expressing those sentiments, you are waaay late to the party. Since you feel so strongly, why don't you write to the management of this forum and object to them allowing this thread to exist here? If (when) the management of this forum then decides to allow this thread to continue, then you have your answer - leave the thread to those who want to enjoy it, and suffer your indignations in silence.
He's not a subscriber so he has no room to complain, but as you implied, 32 pages of postings, everyone is getting along fine, we know what we are dealing with replica-wise, so it's no big deal to us.
But the only folks that wear replica watches to 'show them off' or flaunt it in someones' face is a high school kid. I have reps, I know several others that have reps, and NOBODY tries to hide that they are reps, if someone 'calls us' on it we admit it right away, no biggee to us. If the watch has the style I like I will buy it, I don't care if the name on it is 'rolex' or 'zippy'.
Thanks. To tell you folks the truth, I've never really cared or even looked at the intracacies of a replica, it just didn't matter to me. Reading this entire thread tells me don't buy a rep watch that has gold in it (for obvious reasons), but I'm trying to learn the different movements, what's good, what's a POS, it sounds to me like the jap movements are not so good, but the asian ones are very good? I'm also trying to figure out why reps that 'look' identical can be $110 at one place but $230 at another place.. if anyone wants to chime in or PM me, feel free. Rolex, TAG, IWC...
In other words you don't have any intelligent refutations either. Again, I'm not surprised. Supporting these Shanghai parasites at the expense of legitimate businesses is pretty indefensible. I bet you pro-fake guys have hard drives packed to the last kilobyte with all sorts of ill-gotten software, music, movies etc as well...same sort of mindset required. If Ferrarichat moderators believe a tacky thread for tacky flea market watch knockoffs is perfectly at home in a forum subsection called "FINE WATCHES and Jewelry" then that is their (rather amusing) prerogative; far be it from me to tell them how to run their website... However, if YOU don't want to see any dissenting opinions on YOUR illegal behavior then perhaps YOU should write to the management of this forum and ask them to create a special "Wannabe" sub-section for you and your like minded brethren to congregate in parasitic peace? Until then, maybe YOU should suffer your detractors in silence, or better still, attempt to refute them with sound logic and reasoning? (good luck on that) P.S. Hey Whiskey, I'm still waiting on those citations I requested. I guess you must have forgot to provide them? Once more, which timepiece companies are licensing their designs for cheap Chinese knock-offs? That was a very "interesting" claim you made and I would like to give you the opportunity (again) to back it up with some actual evidence...
Calm down, I don't own a "fake" watch but I don't care if somebody else does. at least they own a watch and don't use their BB or iPhone to tell time thats tacky. (and from china and mexico as well)
I bought it off Ebay for myself and my groomsmen for my wedding last year. Were cheap, cost me $100 each and it cost me another $25 each to have them engraved for us. The watch brand is IK Colouring. Made in China I guess. They have a few different colour styles. I loved this black/gold one. Its an automatic. Wear it on and off and for a cheapy, she keeps good time and it still works. Here is one on Ebay now. $50 free delivery. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IK-Coloring-Automatic-Black-Gold-Mens-Watch-/150520713490?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item230bbbd112
YOU are the one raising a stink about it, everyone else is getting along just fine, YOU just enjoy stirring the pot. I didn't forget anything, but you are counting on me to provide a link to something I read offline, and that's kinda hard to do. NO, I don't remember where I read it, but what I read was there are a few companies that make their 'name' stuff, and also supply replica stuff, in the same way a company produces name brand food, and a generic label in the same location with different packaging. The article also compared it to Lexus/Infinity/Scion. It made sense to me and I have no reason to doubt it. I said 'produce or license fakes', you are jumping all over 'license', I SHOULD have said 'produce essential parts'. Shoot me. And this is where you come back and call me a liar, etc. and the game you play goes on and on.. I have an idea: Let's not talk about replicas, and maybe they will just 'go away'?! sic
Me? Why do you I assume I own a replica watch? Just because I posted in opposition to your rant? Well, that's a false assumption on your part, then. My objection was solely to your interrupting the discussions with another rant that has already been expressed frequently. Your rant against a permitted thread is unnecessary - how about YOU start your own thread ranting against replica watches, and have at it there? Your very own soapbox, and your fellow forum members who share your views can vilify these forum members to your heart's content. Best of both worlds, wouldn't you say? Obviously, the moderators here DO believe that this thread is acceptable, and you are the one being an ass with this extended rant against it. Go on, start your own thread - I'd guess that you are entitled to your opinions and to expressing them here, but the slightest modicum of respect would suggest you do it in your own thread. Nobody stomps on your opinions, and you don't need to stomp on other's opinions in here. Note again, I'm not engaging in the defense of replica watches, etc., etc, just point out your rudeness. I am Canadian, after all.
+100 Start your thread and stand on your soap box there as if that will change anything or anyone's actions
1) As I said, what, 32+ pages, and the forum is still here, you would think you would be able to draw your own conclusions as to if the mods think the forum is OK or not. Apparently you have failed to notice. 2) WE are talking about something we feel like discussing, and you are quite obviously free to comment as you do, but whatever you say isn't going to sway anyone here, but go ahead, 'fight on', as Mr. Dedeaux would say. 3) As far as our 'illegal' behavior goes, there is illegal stuff all over the place, but I don't see you whining about folks speeding or bypassing catalytic converters or emission controls or anything like that, what gives?
Rifter, Honestly..take a hike man besides add a D to your first name and follow what the dictionary says "a person who moves aimlessly from place to place..." you're nothing but a downer and negative person. After I read this thread it was interesting and fun to learn about how the differences were on these watches and getting an Asian replica were. If I were you I would not patronize the moderators here because this thread had discussions about a real watch vs replica watch such as the Richard Mille watch (fine) on here and I think that counts in discussion of fine watches. I believe if you have nothing positive or interesting to add to the thread go somewhere else. -Carlo
Carlo, Don Juan: he isn't going anywhere, he loves stirring the pot, he will be back, and he will stir it up more. I've said about all I'm going to say to the gentleman, but I'm sure he will be back and attempt to tear me up some more, that's what people like him do, it's what they live for, and I already gave him too much attention.
