Amazing. I'd like to see an English version of Tokyo's building code for residences.

Interesting a very clever. My one question is, could the outside of the house be any uglier? It looks like a concrete box.

I assume that the $500K quoted did not include land. It gives a pretty good indication of the cost of living in Tokyo. As for the exterior, I agree that it basically looks like a concrete block. But if you notice the size of the street next to it, the blank concrete wall will cut down on the noise coming into the home. Being tiny and quiet is most preferable to being tiny and noisy.

Makes me think of that other Japanese home featured here on F-Chat a few
months ago - the house will all the "sliding panels" that rearranged the same
tiny space into like 25 different variations he called "rooms" (although they
were all in the exact same small space).

The reality is, no matter how clever stuff like this is - it's bloody TINY! There
is no way around that. I just don't know how folks can live like that.

I realize that's the norm in Japan and elsewhere in Asia.... but it ain't for me.

    :)

That's a good point, I didn't think about the noise. Quiet would be a whole lot nicer then noise in such a small place.

Looks like you'd need to go outside to change your mind. ;)

I don't know their definition of "Single Parking Space", but as I see two garage doors at the left side, with room for one more, and one at the right side, it clearly is bigger than a single parking space...

Could not afford to build a home, so it cost $500k...

    Umm, move to the countryside?

This place makes me think of the show Oz, the supermax prison
