Cayman R

I saw that on their site the other day. I was sort of expecting it after the Boxster spider, the Cayman is a natural for the same treatment. I'm already thinking about upgrading my 07 S.

I like it too, but Porsche really needs to quit holding these other cars back just to keep the 911 on its pedestal.

Well, presumably you could take it to a tuner for a bit of extra attention in the engine department.

Just to clarify I don't think the Cayman is a lesser car by any means, I just think Porsche should drop in their 3.8 or 3.6 instead of the 3.4 , but they don't want it to outperform the 911.

 

That metallic green color will be resale-proof. Otherwise a logical evolution of the car.

Early cars from 06 and 07 are now in the high $20k's. Hard to imagine a better two-seat sports car for everyday use than one of those for the money. The R in five years will be similar and an even better buy.

 

When I owned my Cayman S, I got one of those little surveys from Porsche asking about general build quality, etc. They included a little write-in section at the end and one of the questions was "What could be done to improve your car?" or something like that. I just wrote "3.8".

I really loved that car, but I could always feel how amazing it would have been with more power and a little less weight.

 

Only very high mileage cars sell in the high 20s. Normal mileage is still 35-40K. I was fortunate to buy an 07 S last year with 5500 on it for 39.5. A friend has been trying to duplicate the deal for a year and has been unsuccessful. I happened to look up the value of my car the other day and it shows 35K trade in in average condition now with 16K miles. Early 2009 was a great time to buy used high end cars.

dont know about this car. going to be near gtr price with less than m3 performance. i know about mid engined balance but still...

 

Less than M3 performance? I think the M3 will beat the Cayman R in straightline acceleration by the slimmest of margins if at all. I expect the Cayman R should beat the M3 quite handily around most tracks. In Car and Driver's recent Best-Handling Cars comparison, the Boxster Spyder outperformed the M3 by almost 2 seconds a lap around a 2-minute track.

 

You're probably right in general, but I like it. It seems like everyone around where I live drives grey metallic cars. I'm tired of me-too colors.

Looks like a good package, but with late model Porsches it seems better to buy lightly used -- the options/packages seem to lose their entire value the day after the original purchase. (I exaggerate, but not by much...)

 

It is available in a large variety of colors. I'm guessing the pea green will be pretty scarce.
