very nice - looking like the work of art it is
Yep...as well as a few QV water pumps and a host of other projects in progress moved along (a little). With the right tools, knowledge and a plan...these things can move along at a reasonable pace. Besides "our" machinist did all the hard work...
The pulleys are anodized. IIRC, the red is conventional anodize, & the black outer gear is hard anodized. They are machined out of 7075 which is an extremely hard Al alloy. It's actually harder/more wear resistant than mild steel! A lot of the design details of this belt system are in this & other threads with "new belt system" in the title: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91286
I don't care what anybody says, you Yankees do good work. I'm waiting for the Youtube clip of the first start-up! It's going to be great.
Chris, If you've got the pump and pump housing, please bring it by the next time you're up here...and I'll get them installed for you, gratis. If the pump housing or mounting studs are nasty looking, no worries...we've got everything we need here to make her look "as new"... David
The pulleys are little gems and fit perfectly! With the recently acquired Hill Engineering tensioner bearings, this should be one cool and reliable timing belt system!
Please share which belt you end up using. I couldn't get them to work with an off the shelf belt and the stock diameter tensioner bearing so I made my own tensioner bearings and came up with a different procedure for putting the belts on. I found it's crucial to be able to slide the tensioner bearing on by hand while the tensioner is locked at full slack. The fact the belts are thicker and wider further complicates wrapping them around everything ... might not be an issue for you since you do this for a living. Look forward to seeing this altogether. Thanks for sharing. cheers
Geeze Russ...that sounds like a lfit-handed sort of comment. Come to think of it, I am left-handed, so thanks!!
You're welcome! Credit where credit is due, however...This pulley/belt arangment is a Scott McGee (sp?) design. I'll post some information tomorrow on the belts he speced for the job. The only variable which I've added is the HE tensioner bearings, which I believe, have a slightly larger o.d. We shall see if I can get the belt on... Best, David
Tensioner mounts cleaned, lubed and the HE bearings installed...Ready to degree those cams in! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
4v or 2v? for the 4v I have to order the belt direct from Gates as it's not an off the shelf item. way back I had tried the T288 but it was 1 tooth to long and that caused the slack issue, it can be used but would need a larger race on the bearing. since then I just order the custom sized ones directly.
Woohoo...have I been missing all the action. Kudos to Chris and all others involved here. This things going to be together before you know it. We'll have to have our national 3x8/Mondial gathering then (and maybe all drive to the F1 race in Austin, TX). Can't believe this thread is over 40 pages now
Henry, yes, it's finally taking shape. Without David's services, i still would have been playing with the cam drive assembly. 40 pages?? I only show 9 on my side.
You've got your "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" option set at the forum default of 20. Chris has his set to 100.
Yes, very good Thanks. Hope yours was too. I got plenty of leftovers. I have to go to work today, so I will have turkey pizza special all day. Jeremy comes thru again. He's one of our main computer gurus that I wasn't aware we had.
So, today we're putting the together the Badman's QV...;-) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
