I am new to this forum and Ferraris in general. I am looking for an entry level car. The cars I am considering are the 328, 348 and 355 convertibles somewhere between 1989 thru 1995. I would like the pluses and minuses with more of an emphasis on mechanical issues and maintenance. Also which cars would be more friendly should the owner want to do some of the minor maintenance.
I am sure these questions have been answered before. If you would point me on the right direction I would appreciate it.
I also have this nagging question in the back of my mind. I rarely see a car advertised with over 30 or 40K on the odometer. What gives? Does anybody ever drive these cars?
    Thanks in advance.

I am a new 355 owner. I am learning new things every day on this f chat about the cars. One thing I have already learned is that you are going to get some definite responses. Especially as to the comment " entry level" in referencing these cars especially the 355. Let's wait and see.

Once an owner drive them a lot of miles, the owners just don't let them go; its a bonding experience.

Each of the cars you have listed are quite different in nature (both how they drive and what you may feel like when driving them) and of course you may have a prefernce for the way that they look, there are plenty of polarising views about which looks best (I for example prefer the slightly more exotic look of the 348 and I don't see a lot of them, though the rear view of the 355 is more handsome) and then there are those that really love the retro "Magum PI" look of the 328 which I have heard/read often mentioned as the prettiest of the 3-- cars

I would strongly suggest that you drive each of the cars and make an assessment re which you prefer. I have a 348 and personally love the fact that it was the last of the breed with the dogleg gearbox and no power steer, but conversely you may have a preference for something a little easier to drive like the 355 with an F1 gearbox? Depending on how tall you are, you may also find the 328 a little more cramped inside.

I recently asked a fellow Fchatter who owned both a 348 and a 355 for his opinion on the differences, here is what he said.....

My mechanic has also told me that he finds the 348 is an easier car for him to work on than either the 328 or the 355 (and less complicated than the 355), so from a mechanical viewpoint that is one opinion, though I am sure you will get some others around here.
