My 348 battery has lasted five years so far (touch wood) utilising a mains connected trickle charger.

I prefer the tennder method, the Ctek model Multi US 3300 has a mode for the Optima red top gel. By turning off the battery you will lose some settings. Please remember to put the right side shield back on for the next person that may end up with the car.

Somewhere in this world is a huge pile of those right-hand shields. It boggles my mind that so many just "disappeared." Really is a poor reflection on whoever was working on the car.

On top of that it's the side with the emissions plate on it (for U.S.). No doubt required for smog checks in some places.

Almost makes lost red key fobs seem "reasonable." Okay, I didn't really mean that. People that lost the red key fobs or kept them after selling the car should probably be shot....

I was strongly advised by my Ferrari technician to use a trickle charger when not using my 348 for a longer period of time (say over two weeks). This way you'll save your battery and all the settings in the electronic circuits.

My 348 is equipped with a special socket built behind the front grill. I simply have to plug in the trickle charger without any difficulty. I have made a picture.

My battery looses enough strength so that it will not turn the engine over quickly enough after sitting for 4 weeks in cold temperatures. I have used a Sears Diehard battery tender for 5 years (#71219). It came with a connector for the lighter, so I plug it into the lighter socket. I leave the door window down an inch or so for the cord to pass through. The longest the car has sat is 7 weeks, and it started right up - in a 28 degree temperature in my garage. The car is plugged in continuously (except when I drive it of course!) from the first snow in December until April.

Another tip: From sitting, my cars tires get flat spots that take a few miles of driving to work out. It is a bumpy ride at first. To avoid this, the day before I want to drive it, I push the car forward about 2 feet. It is light enough that I just roll the front tire with my hands, which is sufficient to move the car.

Right hand side, front trunk, under a square cubby hole cover. Switch is 2 inch round. Turn CW to disconnect.
