They're going to have a tough road to sell these things. I'm having second thoughts of taking delivery of mine, for $20k out the door, I could get a mondial cabriolet...

I am pretty sure that's not the choice others are torn over. ;)

Still have two great daily drivers, this one is going into the toy list. A lot of great cars to be had at that price point...

I can see that. Maybe wait for the Abarth?

For people, like me, looking for a daily driver I don't there is anything that compares at this price.

Could, but if it is priced in the low 30's, you could get a nice Maserati at that price point and really have something neat.

Still thinking it over, more than enough in checking to cover it...

I'm in Italy for the holidays and the streets in Roma and Florenzia are full of Fiat 500s. They are cool looking cars. Once they get seen on the USA streets, I think USA sales will boom.

Chrysler Canada sold out the 500 unit limited edition launch model in 12 hours online.

It arrives here en mass in spring of next year.

My SMART car lease expires in 2012.........perfect timing for me to get the second (or even third) year of the Canadian equipped version of the FIAT 500. Because we get -40 weather with regularity I expect the first few owners to have a multitude of problems that I want to avoid. :)

We have a 5 year old 1.0 litre 16V Fiat Uno in Rio de Janeiro.....revs to 7,000 RPM and is a great little driver with all the Italian flavor we like. I see no reason why this won't be a hit up here in Canada, provided that they do not over price it. If a nicely equipped one comes in at $16 - $17K MAX it will sell.....at $20K or more it will die a quick death.......there is a reason Hyundai and Kia lead the sales pack right now.......all their good cars are <$15K........

Dealers could make money by doing warranty work if the cars turn out to be unreliable.

Having looked at all of its competitors in the past two weeks while car shopping, it appears that with apples to apples equipment levels it will be significantly less expensive than a Mini but a bit more than a Mazda 2. About the same as a Fiesta, but the Fiat seems much cooler than the Ford.

I wonder if they would ever bring the diesel version over with long gearing made purely for fuel mileage. It would probably sell just on that merit alone and people would put up with its shortcomings if it was getting 55 mpg. $4 gas wouldn't hurt it either.

We are approaching that level (~$3.25/gallon) where it was shown in 2007-08 that people actually changed their driving habits and purchase decisions to conserve.

I think it would be more interesting if they did a cng car instead. Lots of natural gas available domestically. Although it sounds like they may be looking at using it for trucks instead.

The official FIAT web site isn't very informative, unless I'm missing something....not much in the way of technical specs. And I didn't see nearly the number of options that were initially talked about. I'd like to get the convertible when it comes in, but I need a lot more information first.

    Jack.

    Just got this.

Dear XXXX (Judge4re), Prima Edizione Numero 308:

With 2011 right around the corner, so too is the assembly of your Prima Edizione FIAT 500!

Production of the FIAT 500 begins this January in bright, modern facilities with "World Class Manufacturing" processes designed to create state-of-the-art assembly, efficiency and leading-edge product quality.

And our benchmark processes don't stop there. Each and every vehicle will be thoroughly tested and inspected prior to delivery to ensure that your FIAT 500 meets our standards — and yours. Delivery should occur in mid to late February. Which means we are also extending the deadline to the end of February for you to complete the purchase of your vehicle. In the meantime, dealers are busy putting the finishing touches on our Studios. We'll also be sending you details about the FIAT Studios in your area.

Soon, we will make history by introducing a new car company to North America. We appreciate your patience as we finalize operations.

Look for more updates regarding the assembly of your Prima Edizione FIAT 500 — and more importantly, its delivery date.

In the meantime, I wish you a wonderful holiday season.

    Sincerely,

    Laura Soave
    CEO
    FIAT North America
