You dont have to be an owner to become a member. Just sign up with them and take pics at the events and you'll see them in print and you'll get your own copy of Pilota. The best is when your shots end up on the front page. Carsleuth shoots awesome pics that end up in Pilota occasionally as well. He is no owner/member either

Just watched this video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hGuallLPcM Good thing they are not 5-10 feet long. I love how it seems to behave kinda like a cat
They are very cool creatures! The female frequently beheads the male after mating and I have found headless males still moving, though doubtless unable to go for very much longer! LOL Shiny Side Up! Bill

Very random, but it was the first time I actually took a picture in over a month. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It was on the Linyanti River between Namibia and Botswana. He was a big one, but I couldn't get anyone to go stand next to him for scale.
The building lines were really vertical and parallel, but I suppose that was a result of being far away and taking the shot rather than closer. The tilt shift lens is used to prevent converging of the lines (it can be used to "miniaturize" things). Keeping them parallel is what you want so you have to shift it. Example using the shift: before http://www.flickr.com/photos/tim2000s/3343820670/ after http://www.flickr.com/photos/tim2000s/3343821512/ You can use software to do it: before http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/d/d8/20090407004529!USSupremeCourtWestFacade.JPG after http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/d/d8/20090504055510!USSupremeCourtWestFacade.JPG Nice shots. I love the F355 especially in that color...awesome tree as well.
A'ha. I've used studio view cameras (which tilt shift lenses mimic), but nothing in that picture jumped out at me as being t/s. You are right, though, close up with a wide angle lens there could have been distortion. Cool side discussion! I enjoy analyzing pictures and figuring out how to re-create them. In that un-fixed photo, if the camera was held with the sensor parallel to the plane of those columns it wouldn't be nearly as distorted. Funny, the fixed photo was OVER-fixed (the columns diverge at the top).
Both of the SCOTUS building pics aren't that great imo. I wanted to take one to replace it, but never got a good shot. The colors aren't even correct. This is the one I took of it and you can see the difference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SCOTUSbuilding_1st_Street_SE.JPG There are a number of lenses I'd like, but will have to get a full frame first. Macro for portraits and flower/insect shots. Wideangle for fun. Tilt/shift for architecture. Until then...I will have to stand back as far as possible and use my 250mm lens to prevent the converging lines like this shot I took, lol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LincolnMemorialFromWashingtonMonument.JPG Btw, I noticed you're in the aerospace industry. Photography of the space shuttle is pretty cool. I need a 500mm+ for that one...and a 5dmk2 like this guy had: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8869879@N05/4344200884/
That is one of the most bad ass pictures I've seen in a long time. Must be pretty difficult. That one has a red smudge that I assume is associated with the flames being so bright and reflecting in the barrel. I'd like a long lens for wildlife stuff. These were shot with a 200 X 1.4, and it was a little close for comfort: http://www.hypercontrast.com/Travel/Yellowstone2010/MAB-20100529-1194/887389178_qi7X4-XL-2.jpg http://www.hypercontrast.com/Travel/Yellowstone2010/MAB-20100529-1200/887099349_B6hgw-XL-2.jpg
