Luca di Montezemolo should resign immediately as Ferrari president for Fernando Alonso's failure to win the Abi Dhabi Grand Prix, a minister in the Berlusconi cabinet said Sunday.

Though Alonso was the points leader going into the 2010 finale and needed only a fifth-place finish to win the title, the Spaniard was pitted early by Ferrari when Mark Webber made a pit stop. Alonso ended up finishing seventh, leading to Calderoni’s outburst.

"Despite the ability of the excellent Alonso, Ferrari has managed to lose a championship already won," said an emotional Roberto Calderoni. "We are ashamed of this insane strategy, and he (Montezemolo) is guilty.

"He should get out of Maranello immediately so he does no further harm to Ferrari. By the evening, we expect his resignation."

Stability is the key, years of throwing folk under the bus because they make a mistake, is a mistake, IMO.

I'd pay about as much attention to this as a California congressmen calling for the removal of Padres manager for losing 10 in a row and blowing their lead going into the playoffs.

    Which means... NONE.

It is nice to know that, just like the rest of us, our politicians are talking sports when they should be working.

Makes them seem almost human, like a dog wearing a hat.

When a team becomes an institution these things happen. In Boston even the Dog Catcher makes pronouncements about the Red Sox :D

This is hilarious! There's no way anybody should take a word of this seriously, it's simply proof that those two things most important in Italy may in fact still be at the top of the list. :)
It's that Italian "PASSION." Still there. At the very least, we should appreciate that!!

Luca di Montezemolo: "When the statesman Calderoli will achieve in his life 1% of what Ferrari has done for this country in terms of industry and sports, then he'll deserve an answer."

Piero Ferrari: "I’m astonished and saddened by certain statements some politicians and a minister of the Italian Republic made after yesterday’s race. It has never happened in my entire life at Ferrari that politicians intervened during good and bad moments in our life in motorsport, and I want it to stay like this. But if we want to have a look at how much Ferrari has done for Italy’s image around the world, then I can only say that it is definitely much more than certain politics have done."

    Love their responses,especially Piero's...

Luca di Montezemolo has been passed over and not chosen for the post of CEO at FIAT which he was reputed to aim at.

Many in Italy now suspect him to harbour some political ambitions of his own and to wait the opportune moment to enter the arena.

Some say that he secretly supports the parti of Berlusconi already. So obviously adverse comment could damage his image and make his life more difficult in future.

Luca's supposed political ambitions are old news.
When it comes to Italian politics predictions are to be treated with great skepticism, even when they prove to be true :D

He is not supporting mr B. Not now at least. LdM and many other Italian industrials are actually criticizing him and the government any time they have the occasion to.
This and the FIAT problem have caused Ldm to have some contrasts with the government.

Anyway, the minister who made these comments comes from the northern league party, which is now allied of mr B., and excluding people who vote for him and a few others, he is not considered a very smart, brilliant person and he never misses an occasion to open his mouth and confirm what kind of person he is.

LdM couldn't answer in a better way.

It is quite incredible that any political figure feels that they have any business commenting on this at all. Perhaps this cabinet minister should focus a little more on politics, and a lot less on how a team performs in a sport, let alone recommend personnel changes. Unbelievable!

To understand the person we are talking about..after Italy won the world cup in 2006 he said
the Italian team beat the French team which sacrificed its own identity by lining up Blacks, Islamists and communists to get results.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to what he says.

Then you wonder why things go bad in Italy.
