I was pretty pumped about watching the new series only to be horribly disappointed. The cast is one of the worst TV triumvirates ever. Tanner Foust is a complete moron and the other two guys don't even seem to dig cool cars. The interview with buzz alldrin was akin to snooki taking physics lessons from Stephen hawking. The history channel should stick to what it is good at... pawn shows and 8 hour conspiracy theory specials.

Agreed it was lackluster. Could have started with something better than a Viper. Also needs some new hosts. The guy with the beard has one potential but the other two forget it.

It was automotive entertainment. I don't think they ever claimed you would get anything more than that. For me, I really enjoyed watching them smoking the hides off the Viper (someone's car probably) and running the Lambo in the dirt. Heck it ain't my car they're doing this too. Was the Cobra/Viper segment contrived? Hell yes; it was pretty ridiculous. And yes, watching the clock run down on Buzz Aldrin's "15 minutes of fame" was pretty painful. But if I was faced with the choice of watching "Pass Time", "Pinks", Motorweek, NASCAR or any of the other stupid automotive "reality shows" (West Coast Customs for example) I would tolerate Top Gear over all of them. You don't have to like Tanner Foust but you have to admit, you probably couldn't have a "spin and win" moment (doing a 360 in your lane and driving off as if it never happened) like he did in the Viper at anywhere close to the speed he was going. I will tune in again and understand if you don't

There is no doubt about Tanner Foust's driving ability. He is a very good driver, but then again if that were my job and what I had to do on a daily basis you bet I could pull it off. I will tune into Topgear again, I think they just missed the mark no this US version.

Are you saying you have the same talent as Tanner Foust, you just don't get the chance to drive like that everyday. There is a huge difference between skill/talent and lots of experience. Just because you think you can do something does not necessarily make it reality.

Im saying that if I had the opportunity to develop skills like that on a daily basis, over time I think anyone can. There is no question that Foust is a phenomenal driver. What is questionable is his hosting ability.

Jesse James would make a great host but he can't drive worth a sh*t :) Same for Leno.

Why would they even use the name "Top Gear" and put on a poser show like this.

The first comment above about Snooki was crazy funny!

Did anyone see the first season of UK Top Gear? It was **** until they replaced the one guy with James May, then it started to hit it's stride. I think it has potential but they probably do have to replace a host or maybe two. I'm no fan of Tanner Foust as a TV personality but the man can drive. I'd replace this Rutledge Wood guy with Paul Tracy. Anyone who has ever seen Battle of the Supercars on Speed knows why.

I despise Tanner Foust, all he knows how to do is drift. He drifts every single car he drives and its just annoying as hell. TGUSA is about as bad as 101 Cars You Must Drive a few years ago that was awful. I agree Paul Tracy is MUCH better and more entertaining.

They should have kicked off the season with something quintessentially American.

A race from the Alamo to the first In N Out burger in Cali in

    1. Panoz roadster
    2. Saleen S7
    3. Shelby Aero

That would have been cool. Though I am not sure the fat guy would fit in any of the cars.

So you would rather watch shows like dancing with the stars, desperate house wives, queer eye for the straight guy, since top gear is the worst show ever? Is there something your trying to tell us?

Paul Tracy would be great. Any new show is tough and comparing it to the original is tougher. Those 3 guys have been great for a long time. I will give it a few more chances its surely better than 75% of the crap on tv

why so much hate? it is a total carbon copy of the uk version and thats not a bad thing. just hope advertising concerns dont prevent real criticisms of the test cars.

maybe a future episode will feature fchat members. p4/5 would be good.

my guess is paul tracy is already on show as the stig

I don't think Paul Tracy is that solid of a driver. He can drive and is fearless and he's cool but his car control is not going to stand the test against all Models. He makes supercars imho by constantly making Foust look like a geek.

Zero chemistry betw. the three lads so lets give them some time. In the meantime, the videography is excellent so I'll continue to watch on mute with music from my ipod in my ears.

I actually thought the 2nd episode was pretty good. I agree the team chemistry is still lacking, but I actually thought Tanner did a nice job with the Evo segment and with the blind drifting.
I thought the Astin Martin segment was actually rather dull and other than the cool shots of the roster tail on the dry lake bed, there was nothing interesting.

I am going to keep tuning in, and hope others do as well. There are not enough good car shows on for people to give up on this already.

I have to agree with many of the previous posts. The problem with the U.S. Top Gear is that we(being everybody) are comparing it to the U.K. version. The U.K. version, IMO, is one of the best shows on television, ever. Trying to capture some of the greatness is a hard thing to do and they just haven't hit it right yet. As for the judges, Ferrara and Wood need to go. They don't seem to drive all that well and don't seem to know much about cars either. The chemistry between the 3 is zero and its not funny. They also seem to be trying to hard. Their British counterparts are naturally funny and go with the flow. These guys seem to be very scripted and unsure of themselves.

Episode 2 was pretty decent the first half, then came the blind segment. I want to state that I am not part of any Blind Society, but that was just wrong. It was anything but funny and overall just stupid. My take on the segment was that he wasn't blind and if he was then he did a damn good job.

I will continue to watch it in the coming weeks. The shows mentioned in the previous posts are a good comparison as to what else is on T.V. C'mon, if the U.K version didn't exist I can guarantee that it wouldn't have received a fraction of the bad press.

If you play along and assume that the guy is blind (which, why wouldn't you), then as you said he did a great job, but moreso it is a credit to Tanner as an instructor. I thought it was actually a pretty good segment. Although as with the rest of the show so far, Ferraro and Wood were the weak links.

I didn't see the 2nd episode yet but let's face it, has this show "jumped the shark" already if they are doing "blind guy driving" stuff ? I would have thought there was a lot more to do before you got to something as unlikely as a blind guy trying to drive. (And to those blind people on F Chat who are reading posts through audio technology, I am not trying to cast negatively on the blind - I just think that it is unlikely that blind people can drive - yet). It would be like a cooking show doing a brocolli-rabe and Cheerios casserole...

nah, I don't think this was a jump the shark moment, and actually I didn't think the segment was so bad. What they were trying to do was figure out a way to have a drifting challenge that Tanner wouldn't automatically win. Although if the UK guys tried to do the same thing I suspect there would be much more humor involved, but still I think the US guys did ok, although the segment really just highlighted how bad Ferraro and Wood are.

It seemed like the blind man was quite enjoying himself, you've got to remember that is something that he has never done before and we all love driving so much on this site so just imagine what it was like for him to be able to drive for the first time.
