Hello I am in the process of removing and replacing my fuel injectors on the 84 QV. Read all the posts and finally figured out that my injector bushings are different than the 2vs and carbed cars. Apparently I have the non-screw in type bushing without the hex seen on later 308s. see this thread that finally explained it to me. Thanks for that post and pictures Steve. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220728&highlight=101031 My question is, how is my bushing held in place, and how do I remove it? I suspect it's much like the injector, just held in place by the seal. So do I just pull it out? Do I need to replace the seal on the outside of the bushing, or just the o-ring on the injector? What are most people doing? Thanks. Brent.
I've just started the same project on my 85, As far as I know the bushing is held in by a seal and sometimes it may come out with the injector. You'll have to pull them out. I've come up with a tool to do it. Or at east I think I have It's a long bolt with a washer held in place by 2 nuts on the thread end. Make sure you have a wire around the head of the screw and anchored to something so it won't fall through into the manifold. Then insert it into the bushing moving the washer around the bottom edge and pulling up as you work around the bushings base.
I also have some seals for the bushings if you want some. Free if you want to pay just the post. Steve
See post #18 in this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290194 It has photos that show the snap-ring (aka seeger-ring) that hold the 113309 bushing into the intake manifold.
Thanks guys. I may take you up on the seals. The tool sounds like a good idea. I've found the bushings for anywhere between $80 and $260. Doubt I would ruin all of them by pulling them out. There are no leaks. I was wondering about just replacing the injectors and injector O-rings. Smart or lazy? Brent.
I had one leaky injector and all I did was pull the injector, put a new seal on it and pushed it back into place. I'd heard that when they leak it is rarely the bushings seal. So far so good after one year. Just one personal experience and what I heard. I'd certainly follow what any of the techs here have to say.
You can get NEW plastic injector bushings (moulded from an origional) from a F-Chatter here (Geert Jan in the 400 forum) for about $35 each.
I just did my 4 rear bank injectors tonight and my little pulling tool of a bolt and a nut worked perfectly. I popped the throtle body off and probably got through them in less than 2 hrs. Steve
the one bummer is that I cracked the 25 year old plastic fuel line holders so I need to find or make 2 new ones.
Same happened to me! Given that the part is now NLA, I tried to create replacements from the four line holders that are available for the TR's. Cutting them in half and epoxing them back to back does not hold up given the heat in the engine bay. Daivid do you have a better solution??
I want to do this on my '84. What other parts/ tools do I need to buy? I clearly have the early QV setup with the screw in base, no snap ring. I'm planning to buy: 0437502047 Bosch Fuel Injector x 8 from Rock Auto at $23 each C1010-19742 Bosch Seal x 8 at about $2 each from somewhere else What else do I need to prep for this project?
Your screw-in style injector holder does not use the "fat donut" seal (C1010-19742 Bosch Seal x 8 at about $2 each from somewhere else) -- you need F part 114661 (no one has posted a generic substitute for this). See post #2 in this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220728
Ok, I see. thanks. Just like nearly everything else, Superformance is 1/4 the price of anywhere in the US. Looks like I'm making another overseas order. Do I need Verell's injector removing tool as well?
AFP's (www.allferrariparts.com) price might be competitive with Superformance's price once shipping and customs charges are considered. Can't really comment on needing Verell's tool, but my guess would be "no" if you are replacing the rubber bushings (i.e., you need to remove/unscrew the whole thing anyway).
Thanks for the help Steve. I've got it all ordered and on the way. I'll try to post again after I make some mistakes, buy some more parts, and end up getting it back together.
Steve, started pulling my injectors out today. The part number on the side matches those I bought from RockAuto so that's good. Thanks for the help. 2 more questions.... 1. Look at these injectors, they look awful. Is this crap all over the side the same as what the rest of my fuel system looks like? I guess this isn't actually where the fuel would be, right? (I just cleaned the one on the right, it looked the same, covered in goo, when I took it out. 2. How do I get the injector out of the early style seal and bushing? I don't understand actually how this works? What holds it in there? Seems like the fuel pressure would force it out, looks to be just pressed in. Or, am I supposed to be replacing both the bushing and the seal at this point??? Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK, got them off with the vise. What a mess. 4 of them (rear bank) are welded shut by years of corrosion...not sure how I'm ever going to get them off.
Quote from the birman how to: "first remove the fuel line (14mm flare nut) using either a 14mm a flare nut wrench if you have one or an open end wrench." On my rear bank, I can't even do that (break the 14mm fuel line loose). I have the whole manifold out of the car along with the fuel lines. I can't break a single one of those loose. Should I try heat?
Damn. They are that tight? Soak them in PB blaster overnight. The key is to not destroy the fuel lines. Those suckers are not easy to replace.
I did that, I'll try again tomorrow. Hopefully PB Blaster will do it. If not I'm taking it to a Ferrari mechanic; I'm ready to pay him a fortune to get them off for me.
